The first issue of "Whiz Comics" was numbered Issue #2, due to there being two black-and-white unreleased issues called "Flash Comics No. 1" and "Thrill Comics No. 1" to secure advertisers. It was released in February 1940 and featured the origin of "Captain Marvel," a Superman-like hero, who is still around today. When Billy Batson, a young boy, speaks the magic word "SHAZAM!" an acronym of Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mercury, he transforms into an adult hero with the powers of superhuman strength, speed, flight, wisdom, courage, and other abilities. The most popular superhero of the 1940s, even outselling "Superman," Captain Marvel got his own series, and an entire franchise of other Marvel characters. The series ran until 1953, and eventually DC Comics acquired the rights to the characters. Starry Night Publishing is proud to bring you the original Golden Age comic book stories, featuring one of the top 50 greatest comic book heroes of all.

JUNGLE COMICS #100The main character associated with the title is Kaanga. He appeared in every issue of Jungle Comics. When Kaanga was a child his parents died in the jungle and he was raised by apes. The reader never gets to know his real name or his ancestry, but the jungle is where Kaanga feels most at home. In the first issue Kaanga meets his mate Ann, who is a Jane clone, after he rescues her from a white slave trader named Bill Blackton. Ann then joins Kaanga in his jungle existence. After nearly ten years Kaanga was given his own title in Spring, 1949. This ran for 20 issues until the Summer of 1954. One of the reasons for the series demise was the formation of The Comics Code Authority, a self-regulatory body that was formed because of moral concerns about the contents of many of the comics of the time. As much of Fiction House's material involved images of scantily clad women they withdrew from the market. Shazam made his debut in Whiz Comics in 1940, and outsold his biggest competitor, Superman, by 14 million copies a month. It wasn't long before a variety of merchandise was licensed--secret decoders, figurines, buttons, paper rockets, tin toys, puzzles, costumes--and a fan club was created to keep up with the demand. These collectibles now sell for outrageous prices on eBay and in comic book stores and conventions. Seventy years later, an unprecedented assortment of these artifacts are gathered together by award-winning writer/designer Chip Kidd and photographer Geo Spear. Join Kidd, Spear, and the World's Mightiest Mortal in this first, fully authorized celebration of ephemera, artwork, and rare, one-of-a-kind toys, and recapture the magic that was Shazam

Welcome to the House of Mystery, where bone-chilling (and rib-tickling) revelations haunt every dark and shadowed room--and people are dying to get in! One of the most celebrated anthology titles of the Bronze Age of comics, The House of Mystery earned its iconic status in the early 1970s under the skillful hands of editor Joe Orlando, whose uncanny aptitude for the fearsome and the frightful brought forth a sumptuous smorgasbord of arcane amusements in every enchanting installment. Now these classic tales of the weird and the otherworldly are gathered for the first time in a handsome hardcover edition. House of Mystery: The Bronze Age Omnibus Vol. 2 collects issues #201-226 of the acclaimed series and features scarily sublime work from a horde of comics' greatest artists, including Bernie Wrightson, Michael Wm. Kaluta, Sergio Aragonés, Alex Niño and some of the earliest published work by Jim Starlin, creator of Thanos. Collects House of Mystery #201-226.
