Abstract: The purpose of this project was to design a new program, identify a funding source, and write a grant proposal to fund a service center for immigrant families involved with the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). Services include support groups, educational classes, crisis intervention therapy, parenting classes, and referral services. A literature review revealed challenges and obstacles faced by immigrant families in the U.S. It also reviewed the risk factors for child maltreatment, reasons immigrant children become involved with the child welfare system, challenges that immigrant families face within the child welfare system, and recommended interventions that can help alleviate some of the difficulties experienced by immigrant families. A search for a potential funding source identified the American Legion Child Welfare Foundation. A grant was written to fund a comprehensive program at DCFS Belvedere office. Actual submission or funding for this program was not required for the completion of this project.
