In Veil and Vow, Aneeka Ayanna Henderson places familiar, often politicized questions about the crisis of African American marriage in conversation with a rich cultural archive that includes fiction by Terry McMillan and Sister Souljah, music by Anita Baker, and films such as The Best Man. Seeking to move beyond simple assessments of marriage as "good" or "bad" for African Americans, Henderson critically examines popular and influential late twentieth- and early twenty-first-century texts alongside legislation such as the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act and the Welfare Reform Act, which masked true sources of inequality with crisis-laden myths about African American family formation. Using an interdisciplinary approach to highlight the influence of law, politics, and culture on marriage representations and practices, Henderson reveals how their kinship veils and unveils the fiction in political policy as well as the complicated political stakes of fictional and cultural texts. Providing a new opportunity to grapple with old questions, including who can be a citizen, a "wife," and "marriageable," Veil and Vow makes clear just how deeply marriage still matters in African American culture.

To be a Guardian of the Veil is to live in the hearts of the Fae forever. Kalina and Thorne have served the Fae for centuries as Guardians of the Veil. As with all Guardians, their service will end in sacrifice to maintain the Veil that shields the Fae from the mortal world. Fate, however, has other plans in store, not just for Kalina and Thorne, but for all of the Fae. These two were never supposed to meet, but when they do, even centuries of tradition cannot deny the siren call of their mating bond. A bond that may just change the fate of the Fae forever.

Saint Ambrose, a fourth century Bishop of Milan, is a prominent figure of the early Christian Church, initiating ideas that widely impacted medieval conceptions of church and state relations. Serving as a model bishop that viewed the church as rising above the ruins of the Roman Empire, Ambrose is also remembered as the teacher that converted and baptised St. Augustine of Hippo, the great Christian theologian. Ambrose’s literary works, principally sermons, have been acclaimed as masterpieces of Latin eloquence, providing invaluable models of the transmission of Greek philosophy and theology in the West. Saint Ambrose, also known as Aurelius Ambrosius, is one of the four original doctors of the Church. He was the Bishop of Milan and became one of the most important theological figure of the 4th century. He is considered a saint by the Catholic Church, Eastern Orthodox Church, Anglican Communion, and various Lutheran denominations, and venerated as the patron saint of Milan. Ambrose's intense episcopal consciousness furthered the growing doctrine of the Church and its sacerdotal ministry, while the prevalent asceticism of the day, continuing the Stoic and Ciceronian training of his youth, enabled him to promulgate a lofty standard of Christian ethics. Thus we have the De officiis ministrorum, De viduis, De virginitate and De paenitentia. In De Officiis, the most influential of his surviving works, and one of the most important texts of patristic literature, he reveals his views connecting justice and generosity by asserting these practices are of mutual benefit to the participants. Exposition of the Christian Faith On the Holy Spirit On the Mysteries Concerning Repentance On the Duties of the Clergy Concerning Virginity Concerning Widows On the Death of Satyrus The Memorial Letters
