USA Today Best author featured on “ABC 20/20” brings you another hilarious Annie Graceland mystery! Annie Graceland: Cheesehead. Unwed. Hi-LAR-ious baker who speaks to 'The Dead!' __ I’m interviewing with nice-guy, Venice Beach tech millionaire Mason Callaway to cater the desserts at his birthday bash. His name can open doors and I really want this gig. So, I go for it. I pop on Instagram and research his foodie posts. I spend hours concocting confections for him to taste. I’m waiting at a microbrewery to meet up with him when a Boho-styled brunette clutching a beer trips on her six-inch platforms. She hurtles through the air and douses me in pale ale, before catching herself on top of the pastry box. My samples are smashed. Chocolate is everywhere. “Oopsi-daisy,” she says. “I’m Maisey.” Maisey is Mason’s ex-GF who’s been semi-stalking him. He filed a temporary restraining order. She doesn't care. I still get the birthday bash catering gig. What could possibly go wrong? ** "Publishers Weekly calls Annie Graceland stories “…blithe and funny contemporary cozy mystery..." How has the process of globalization shaped artistic practices on the one hand, and art history and theory on the other? The contributions in this volume approach this question from a range of perspectives, taking into account the role of travel, for example, or practitioners’ increasing knowledge of other cultures, art’s increasing awareness of itself as existing on a global level, literary translation, the advance of technology, and the ever-changing grand narratives of art history. As well as reflections on European avant-gardes and neo-avant-gardes, the collection features discussions of Japan, Latin America, Africa, Asia and the Pacific. As a whole, the volume engages with broader current discourses about cultural globalization, and features input from leading scholars around the world as well as some important novel interventions by early-career researchers. The authors not only make a major contribution to the evolution of avant-garde studies, but also offer valuable, original points of view to art history and to the cultural theory of globalization more broadly.

American Opera Singers and Their Recordings

American Opera Singers and Their Recordings
Author: Clyde T. McCants
Publisher: McFarland
Total Pages: 410
Release: 2004-08-06
Genre: Music
ISBN: 9780786419524

This book focuses on American opera singers and what their recordings say about their artistry. It is not a book about all American opera singers, since many who had important careers on stage, made few, if any, recordings. And many of those who did make recordings, did so prior to the introduction of electrical recording in 1925 (and the resulting advances in the reproduction of the human voice). Opera enthusiasts can only imagine the sound of Farinelli's voice or read what his contemporaries have written about it, but with almost any famous or near-famous singer of recent years, enthusiasts do not have to imagine. Their voices are available through the technology of sound recording. There are 53 entries, one each for 52 singers and a composite entry for a group of Hollywood vocalists. Each entry contains biographical information and is followed by a discography of operatic recordings to be used in conjunction with the critical commentaries. The entries are in alphabetical order by the singer's last name and provide critical analyses of key recordings and of the artists' gifts and limitations.
