A developer's knowledge of a computing system's requirements is necessarily imperfect because organizations change. Many requirements lie in the future and are unknowable at the time the system is designed and built. To avoid burdensome maintenance costs developers must therefore rely on a system's ability to change gracefully-its flexibility. Flex

The Vatican Library's Vaticanus Latinus collection is one of its largest holdings. The majority of the codices between the shelf numbers 3000 and 9000 remain as yet to be cataloged according to modern standards. Professor Girard Etzkorn has cataloged over one hundred of these manuscripts, selecting principally those pertaining to Franciscan authors and Franciscan history between the thirteenth and fifteenth centuries. He has successfully identified the authors of many treatises and sometimes entire works which were hitherto 'anonymous'. While the Iter Vaticanum Franciscanum focuses principally on manuscripts dealing with philosophy and theology, there are also codices which transmit texts on medieval astronomy, medicine, Canon Law, as well as numerous sermons, many of which have until now been unknown. The format of this catalog comprises three (sometimes four) categories: 1) the description, 2) a list of published editions, 3) annotations of historical, biographical or bibliographical importance noted in the codex and 4) a bibliography of 'post-medieval' books and articles about the codex and/or its contents.

Bible Missals are manuscripts that integrate liturgical prayers for the Mass with the scriptural texts of the Latin Vulgate. Long overlooked by scholars, Bible Missals offer important evidence for the development of the medieval liturgy and the liturgical use of scripture by medieval Christians. This monograph is the first comprehensive analysis of the codicology and contents of Bible Missals. Mostly produced in the first half of the 13th century by professional book makers in centers like Paris and Oxford, these hybrid manuscripts were customized for secular, monastic, and mendicant patrons. This monograph focuses on Dominican Bible Missals, the largest group within the repertoire, providing detailed codicological descriptions of each manuscript and analyzing their texts for the Order of Mass and selected liturgical formularies, including prayers for the feast of St. Dominic. For medieval Christians, the words and events of scripture were continually called to mind and reenacted in the sacramental rites of the Mass. Bible Missals provide important material evidence for this interplay between word and sacrament.

The Carmelites, the only contemplative religious order to have been founded in the Crusader States, first emerged as a group of hermits living on Mount Carmel, a site associated with the prophet Elijah. Soon after migrating to the West, in the mid-thirteenth century, they began to develop the geographical associations into a complex historical tradition based on the claim to have been founded by the prophet. Carmelite historical myths were first developed as a response to the threat of suppression, but increasingly came to form the basis of a distinctive ecclesiology and mission. This book, which is the first full-length study of the Carmelite historical legendary, examines the circumstances under which the traditions were constructed, describes the evolution of the traditions themselves from the thirteenth to sixteenth centuries, and places them within the wider context of historical writing by religious orders, and attitudes to the past more generally in the later Middle Ages.
