Timeless Embrace is the gut-wrenching sequel to Timeless Soldier, and part five of the Sparrow’s Tears saga. Lin Sparrow is a witch. That's what people say. In her dreams, Lin has a seer's ability to foretell the future from the ashes of the past. Lin does it with her mind - the Nazis did it with a machine. Lin's marriage plans to Special Forces Captain James Ross are put on hold when they find themselves on a global hunt for the Nazi time machine known as Die Glocke. Communist Red China has established a secret submarine base on North Abaco in the Bahamas. Its commander is a sadistic Admiral who is known as the Water Ghost. Ross and Lin once again form an alliance with Emanuel the enigmatic taxicab driver. Together, they follow a trail of lies, deceit, and murder that rises from the ruins of the Third Reich and reaches to the deepest darkest waters of the Caribbean. But is time travel really possible? Can Ross and Lin stop the Water Ghost from altering the past? Time will tell.

'A critic must be able to feel the impact of a work of art in all its complexity and force. To do so, he must be a man of force and complexity himself...' 'A critic must be emotionally alive in every fibre, intellectually capable and skilful in essential logic, and then morally very honest.' These comments by D. H. Lawrence are as close a description as any of himself as a critic. They come from his essay on fellow novelist John Galsworthy, and there are many other pieces on novels and novelists in this selection. But Lawrence's range of genres extends to poetry and plays andpaintings, and his critical writing encompasses an enormous variety of subjects, from Aeschylus and the Apocalypse to symbolism and syphilis, for his nterests are philosophical , psychological, religious, moral, sociological, historical and cultural as well as literary and artistic. This selectionis a treasure-trove of 'thought adventures' by one of literature's liveliest critical spirits.

The room was silent save for the tick, tock of the ever swinging arm of the grand father clock, stuffed into the narrow corner of the small room. The room was littered with the remnants of history; such an unrelenting force as time had held sway; as ages past. Heavy motes of dust stood as a silent testimony to the silence which had permeated the room, Then like a breath something stirred in the rooms depths. Shadows swayed on the wall as a creature unfurled its heavy wings, disturbing the settled dust, plumes swirled towards the low cantered ceiling a low rumble echoed hollowly filling the with sound.

This novel is based on first-hand accounts of life during WW2 in southern France. The genesis and principal events of the novel were recounted some seventy years after the fact by a close friend: architect, scholar, father, government official, musician. When the occupation began, he joined the Résistance, helping people escape France. As the war continued, he became dangerously caught up in resistance, transporting charcoal from Spain. In March 1943, the Gestapo arrested him following an all-night jam session with Django Reinhardt and Georges Ulmer (neither arrested). The Americans liberated him from Buchenwald in April 1945. As a recipient of the Légion d'Honneur, among numerous other decorations, his story lies at the heart of this novel. He spent hours recounting his life during the war, literally with great pain. Although making this exception, his war-time experience never left his mind a single day of his long life.
