Privileged Scaffolds in Drug Discovery is the most complete and up-to-date work in the area. Covering a wide range of privileged structures, it is a perfect reference for scientists involved in targeted drug development. The editors recruited epserts from several prestigious Chinese institutions to cover the areas of antiviral drugs, chalcone, pyrimidine, (benz)imidazoles, natural product-derived privileged scaffolds, N-Sulfonyl carboxamides, kinase inhibitors, antitumor molecules, antineurodegenerative drugs, triazoles, oxazolidinone, indole and indoline scaffolds, tigliane diterpenoids, peptide and peptide-based drugs, quassinoids, and others including pseudonatural products, macrocycles, stable peptides and peptidomimetics. The book also explores scaffolds in drug molecules approved in recent years. Privileged Scaffolds in Drug Discovery is a complete reference for researchers in drug discovery and organic synthesis, in academic and corporate settings, who are investigating privileged structures upon which to base new drugs. Researchers in medicinal chemistry and chemical biology will also find the contents of this book valuable. - Provides wide coverage of privileged scaffolds in new drug discovery - Includes complex and diverse natural product scaffolds - Covers applications to peptides and peptide-based drugs

Researchers in the field of natural product chemistry and pharmacology focus on discovering new drugs from medicinal plants. The medicinal plants of Sabah (North Borneo), many of which are found in all of Asia and the Pacific, represent a vast array of resources that could be used for the discovery of drugs and the development of cosmetics as well as functional food. No other book focuses on the medicinal plants from this part of the globe in such depth. The author is well known in natural products and this text will appeal to a global audience in presenting the botanical description, chemical constituents, pharmacology, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and functional food potentials of these plants. Features: Describes in a phylogenetic order the habitats, distributions, botanical descriptions, local names, uses, chemical constituents, pharmacological activities, and toxic effects of more than 250 species of medicinal plants of Sabah Provides a selection of botanical plates of medicinal plants endemic to Sabah, hand-drawn by the author Provides comment sections to invite further research on the topic of the development of drugs, dietary products, and cosmetics from Sabah medicinal plants

Chemists from Europe, North America, Japan, and India not only describe the chemistry of the three reactive intermediates relevant to their use in synthesizing complex organic compounds, they also provide detailed protocols of methods for generating and using them in reactions. About a third of the book is devoted to nitrogen, oxygen, and sulfur ylides. The rest ammonium, oxonium, and sulfonium; azomethine, carbonyl, and thiocarbonyl; and nitrile flavors. This volume describes some of the new research published since volume 1 of the series, Plant and fungal toxins , was published in 1983. A few chapters update topics previously treated, but most describe in depth the toxicologic and chemical aspects of other topics. Thus volumes 1 and 6 together prov

Recent global cancer statistical data has clearly indicated that prostate cancer is currently the second most frequently diagnosed cancer (at 15% of all male cancers) and globally the sixth leading cause of cancer death in males. This book is a summary of prostate cancer, covering its incidence, epidemiology, and current treatment options. It also serves as an up-to-date review of the status of currently available alternative and complementary medicines for treating prostate cancer, including various plant extracts, herbal formulations, natural products, yoga, acupuncture, Ayurveda, homeopathy, and Siddha medicines used in prostate cancer therapy.

The first contribution reviews the phytochemical, chemical, and biological literature on members of the ingenane class of diterpenoids from their first isolation in 1968 through 2015, highlighting unresolved issues both common to phorboids and specific to ingenol derivatives. The biogenesis of ingenol is discussed in the light of the Jakupovic proposal of a dissection between the formation of the macrocyclic Euphorbia diterpenoids and the phorboids, and the clinical development of ingenol mebutate is chronicled in the light of its “reverse-pharmacology” focus. The second contribution offers a comprehensive view of the chemical wealth and the taxonomic problems currently impeding chemical and biological investigations of the genus Laurencia. It addresses the botanical description and the growth and population dynamics of the genus, as well as its chemical diversity and ecological relations; the secondary metabolites as well as their sources of isolation; and finally the biological activity.

"This book has succeeded in covering the basic chemistry essentials required by the pharmaceutical science student… the undergraduate reader, be they chemist, biologist or pharmacist will find this an interesting and valuable read." –Journal of Chemical Biology, May 2009 Chemistry for Pharmacy Students is a student-friendly introduction to the key areas of chemistry required by all pharmacy and pharmaceutical science students. The book provides a comprehensive overview of the various areas of general, organic and natural products chemistry (in relation to drug molecules). Clearly structured to enhance student understanding, the book is divided into six clear sections. The book opens with an overview of general aspects of chemistry and their importance to modern life, with particular emphasis on medicinal applications. The text then moves on to a discussion of the concepts of atomic structure and bonding and the fundamentals of stereochemistry and their significance to pharmacy- in relation to drug action and toxicity. Various aspects of aliphatic, aromatic and heterocyclic chemistry and their pharmaceutical importance are then covered with final chapters looking at organic reactions and their applications to drug discovery and development and natural products chemistry. accessible introduction to the key areas of chemistry required for all pharmacy degree courses student-friendly and written at a level suitable for non-chemistry students includes learning objectives at the beginning of each chapter focuses on the physical properties and actions of drug molecules
