Excerpt from Sixth Annual Report of the Woman's Presbyterian Board of Missions of the Northwest We have experienced a common sorrow with all Christian workers, in the death of Mrs. Doremus, of New York. She was the originator of Woman's Work for Woman in heathen lands, and led the work until past the allotted three-score-years-and-ten of man's life. Faith was her strong staff, and on her banner was inscribed, The Lord loveth willing obedience. Well said her pastor, Her epitaph was written eighteen hundred years ago by Paul, in his description of the holy widow Well reported of for good works: she hath brought up children; she hath lodged strangers; she hath washed the saints' feet; she hath relieved the afflicted; she hath diligently followed every good work.' We have also shared a family sorrow, in the death of Mrs. Kittridge, one of our officers, and a leader of the work in this city. Her hopeful nature aided her in lightening our burdens, and we miss her from our counsels. Let her memory be an inspiration. A number of individual societies have reported deaths of prominent members, and they fear the work may suffer in the church.
