Crafted with clarity and insight by experts in the field, the book begins by demystifying the core concepts of MI, including its origins, theoretical underpinnings, and the pivotal role of empathy in the therapeutic process. Readers are introduced to the MI spirit and principles that underscore the approach: partnership, acceptance, compassion, and evocation. Through engaging explanations and examples, the book elucidates how these principles facilitate a collaborative therapeutic relationship, empowering clients to explore their ambivalence and initiate meaningful change. Key sections of the book are devoted to practical MI skills essential for mental health clinicians, such as open-ended questioning, affirmations, reflective listening, and summarizing. Each skill is explored in depth, accompanied by real-life dialogues and exercises that allow readers to practice and internalize these techniques. Special attention is given to navigating resistance, a common challenge in therapy, with MI strategies designed to foster a supportive dialogue where change can emerge organically. "Introduction to Motivational Interviewing for Mental Health Clinicians" goes beyond basic MI training, offering insights into advanced topics such as integrating MI with other therapeutic modalities, adapting MI for diverse populations, and applying MI in group settings. Rich with case studies, interactive exercises, and reflective questions, this book serves as a dynamic learning tool for clinicians at all levels of experience. Whether you are new to MI or seeking to refresh your knowledge, this guide will deepen your understanding of this powerful approach, equipping you with the skills to facilitate change with empathy, respect, and effectiveness. "Highly irreverent, but filled with wisdom and infused with deep caring, Mixed Nuts is a memoir of a life working in psychotherapy." "Some people assume that all therapists are new-agey hand-holders who just listen and nod like bobbleheads, then suggest an astrology reading, a gluten-free diet, and your choice of complimentary love flower or polished healing stone on your way out the door. That's not me. My job is to help fix what's broken." Speaking to the layperson and the practitioner alike, even Rick's signature humor can't hide his deep understanding of mental illness, his desire to help heal it quickly and effectively, and his pragmatic and often creative approach to treatment."

Pedophilia, Hebephilia and Sexual Offending against Children

Pedophilia, Hebephilia and Sexual Offending against Children
Author: Klaus M. Beier
Publisher: Springer Nature
Total Pages: 285
Release: 2021-03-08
Genre: Medical
ISBN: 3030612627

This book provides extensive information on pedophilia (sexual interest in the prepubescent body age), hebephilia (sexual interest in the early-pubescent body age) and sexual offenses against children, i.e., the various forms of child sexual abuse, including the use of child sexual abuse images, along with the current state of knowledge concerning offender groups. The book makes it clear that pedophilia or hebephilia do not inevitably lead to offenses against children – that there are those who keep their desires in their fantasies and do not act them out on the behavioral level. The World Health Organization classifies pedophilia as a mental disorder. It can be safely assumed that many pedophile men in a given community live their lives, unrecognized and adamant about hiding their sexual drives from society and from themselves, and who are genuinely motivated not to act upon their sexual fantasies. The numbers of exactly this particular group of pedophilically inclined non-offenders can be increased by preventive therapeutic measures. For this purpose, two treatment programs have been developed at the Institute of Sexology and Sexual Medicine at the Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin (University Clinic) since the initiation of the Prevention Project Dunkelfeld in 2005 – First, the project involving adult participants (Berlin Dissexuality Therapy: BEDIT) and later, another for adolescents (BEDIT-A), who find themselves attracted to children. Both program manuals are completely integrated into this work, which reflects 15 years of assessment and treatment experience.
