Nearly half of the known species of mammals alive today (more than 1600) are rodents or "gnawing mammals" (Nowak and Paradiso, 1983). The diversity of rodents is greater than that of any other order of mammals. Thus, it is not surprising that the fossil record of this order is extensive and fossil material of rodents from the Tertiary is known from all continents except Antarctica and Australia. The purpose of this book is to compile the published knowledge on fossil rodents from North America and present it in a way that is accessible to paleontologists and mammalogists interested in evolutionary studies of ro dents. The literature on fossil rodents is widely scattered between journals on paleontology and mammalogy and in-house publications of museums and universities. Currently, there is no single source that offers ready access to the literature on a specific family of rodents and its fossil history. This work is presented as a reference text that can be useful to specialists in rodents (fossil or recent) as weIl as mammalian paleontologists working on whole faunas. Because the diversity of rodents in the world is essentially limitless, any monograph that included all fossil rodents would similarly be limitless. Hence, this book is limited to the re cord of Tertiary rodents of North America. The several species of South American (caviomorph) rodents that invaded North America near the end of the Tertiary are also not included in this text.

As everyone knows by now after reading book five, Peter is not with us any more, he died in San Francisco bay, and his body is lying there as you read this book. Although most people think that the famous rodent passed away at the now destroyed Mother Hens Rest Home, near there, his bones, now turning white rest on the bottom of the bay near the Golden Gate Bridge next to the three rocks by the Cliff House, where a group of sea lions hang out. The new stories that appear in this book are adventures that happened to Peter and his guys in earlier days of his life as described by the author, after reading the material given to him and interviewing in real life, Peter before he died and some of his friends. These stories have never been released before, and you will be the first readers to read them. Please take note that some of the stories that appear in the book are of such content that the timid readers should skip over them or seek parental guidance. The chapters will be identified as the reader turns the pages.

The second edition of Comparative Anatomy and Histology is aimed at the new rodent investigator as well as medical and veterinary pathologists who need to expand their knowledge base into comparative anatomy and histology. It guides the reader through normal mouse and rat anatomy and histology using direct comparison to the human. The side by side comparison of mouse, rat, and human tissues highlight the unique biology of the rodents, which has great impact on the validation of rodent models of human disease. - Offers the only comprehensive source for comparing mouse, rat, and human anatomy and histology through over 1500 full-color images, in one reference work - Enables human and veterinary pathologists to examine tissue samples with greater accuracy and confidence - Teaches biomedical researchers to examine the histologic changes in their model rodents - Experts from both human and veterinary fields take readers through each organ system in a side-by-side comparative approach to anatomy and histology - human Netter anatomy images along with Netter-style rodent images

The most numerous of the world's invasive species, rodent pests have a devastating impact on agriculture, food, health and the environment. In the last two decades, the science and practice of rodent control has faced new legislation on rodenticides, the pests' increasing resistance to chemical control and the impact on non-target species, bringing a new dimension to this updated 2nd edition and making essential reading for all those involved in rodent pest control, including researchers, conservationists, practitioners and public health specialists.

Did you know that 40 per cent of all mammal species in this world are rodents. The skin of the Naked Mole Rat lacks the neurotransmitters that allow it to feel pain. The main difference between a hamster and a gerbil is that the former is nocturnal and the latter isnt. The capybara is the worlds largest rodent, weighing up to 80kg. The African pygmy mouse weighs only seven grams. KnowYour Rodent is an illustrated guide to twenty-three rodent species, which is at once fascinatingly informative and oddly humorous. Brilliantly distinctive drawings by up-and-coming illustrator Thibaud Hérem draw inspiration from such masters as Bruno Munari and Joelle Jolivet, and capture the essence of some of the weirdest and most wonderful creatures the planet has to offer. With a lightness of touch that will appeal to adults and children alike, this offbeat little volume brings together the marvels of nature and the marvels of beautiful design in a perfect little package.
