The award-winning and beautiful story of a child coping with her father's absence. The book tackles a difficult subject with great tenderness, validating a child's experience of a parent suffering from depression. "This poignant, gentle book . . . will be immensely helpful to anyone caring for the child of someone with major depression. It fills an important gap in literature for young children."—Andrew Solomon, author of The Noonday Demon (winner of the National Book Award) and Far From the Tree Zoe’s dad isn’t home. She still sees him in photographs, laughing and playing tennis, but for now she can only visit him in a building where everyone looks sad and the walls are an ugly pink color. Some days Zoe’s dad is too sad to see her, but she goes to the hospital anyway. While waiting she meets Sabina who invites her to swim across the world. Zoe’s not sure it’s possible, but Sabina tells her, “A girl can do everything she wants.” Even though Sabina sometimes dives deep into her own thoughts, the two of them swim around the world many times that summer, until eventually Zoe’s dad is ready to come home. The Summer of Diving is a book full of imagination and hope with a tender child’s-eye understanding of the world. Stridsberg’s story and Lundberg’s lush and colorful paintings reflect and validate a child’s feelings of loss and longing for closeness when a parent’s joy for living temporarily fades.

In April 1988, Valerie Solanas - the writer, radical feminist and would-be assassin of Andy Warhol - was discovered dead in her hotel room, in a grimy corner of San Francisco. She was only 52; alone, penniless and surrounded by the typed pages of her last writings. In The Faculty of Dreams, Sara Stridsberg revisits the hotel room where Solanas died, the courtroom where she was tried and convicted of attempting to murder Andy Warhol, the Georgia wastelands where she spent her childhood, where she was repeatedly raped by her father and beaten by her alcoholic grandfather, and the mental hospitals where she was interned. Through imagined conversations and monologues, reminisces and rantings, Stridsberg reconstructs this most intriguing and enigmatic of women, articulating the thoughts and fears that she struggled to express in life and giving a powerful, heartbreaking voice to the writer of the infamous SCUM Manifesto.

A saturation diver with Hollywood looks, Brian Worley was a born risk-taker. A latecomer to the industry, he began clumsily in the London Docks before working his way through the North Sea and onto more exotic locations. Funded by his subsea career while stored in pressurised chambers for weeks, he pursued a playboy lifestyle out of the water, living in France and South America. Regularly working at 300m below sea level with all manner of fellow misfits, the living was good, but the diving was perilous. Encounters with creatures of the deep, human error and inexperience combined regularly with lethal consequences. But with his apprehension rising with each dive, Brian just had to survive to fund his future.Retired from commercial diving at 40, he was salvaging a hitherto undiscovered wreck of historical significance in The English Channel, and running out of money fast, when he received an offer of a return to work in Brazil - a contract he should never have accepted.Salvamar is a biographical novel set between 1970 and 1984.

It was a picture-perfect night out—the moon was full, and a warm tropical breeze was gently rustling the palm trees. As we were walking across the parking lot of the Dusit Thani, I felt an extremely overwhelming urge to kiss her, as she looked gorgeous and her perfume smelled heavenly. I gathered every ounce of my courage and gently grabbed her arm and pulled her into me and kissed her. She didn’t seem to resist, and we kissed for several moments, and it felt amazing. After we broke our embrace, she poised herself, as English people are very proper, and said, “What was that all about?” I was totally embarrassed and began apologizing profusely, saying, “I am so sorry. I apologize. Please forgive me, I should have asked—” when she suddenly grabbed my arm and began kissing me passionately. To hold her in my arms knowing she was the one that wanted to kiss this time had me enthralled as we stood in the middle of the parking lot kissing in the warm, tropical, moonlit night. It was truly magical, an evening I will never forget, a night of all nights. As we slowly released each other from our second embrace, she said, “I have never been kissed like that.” I was stunned she said that, but I felt the very same way; it sent waves of ecstasy throughout my entire body. I never felt like that before, and it seemed ultramagnetic and so erotically romantic in the moonlight, holding her in my arms and with her tongue and lips passionately kissing me. It was the night of all nights in the summer of my life.
