The Vietnam War is raging. Rick has fulfilled his obligation to his country by registering with Selective Services. But the last thing he wants is to be called up by Uncle Sam, at least not now. Rick could hardly wait to graduate high school and leave his hometown of Tranquillity. He hated spending his summers chopping cotton.
