Excerpt from The Lutheran Church in the City of New York, During the First Century of Its History The third pastor was Rev. Andrew Rudman, Provost of the Swedish Churches on the Delaware. In 1702, on the arrival of Mr. Sande, in March, Rudman made arrangements to re turn to Sweden, but was urged by the Dutch congregations at New York and Albany to take charge of them. It is probable that he spent a part of 1701 with them. He determined to stay for a time at least, and preached his farewell sermon in Wicacoa Church, July 19, 1702, and removed with his family to New York. (acrelius, p. His health was infirm; his wife's family lived at Gloucester, near Philadelphia, and he gave up his purpose to return to Sweden, and came back to Penna. Excerpt from Minutes of the First Convention of the United Lutheran Church in America: New York City, November 14-18, 1918 The Church of the Holy Trinity, New York City, was organized January 27th, 1868. The Rev. G. F. Krotel, D.D., was called as its first pastor. The place of worship was purchased from a Dutch Reformed congregation on 215t Street, near Fifth Avenue. The congregation, under the leadership of Dr. Krotel. Gathered to itself Lutherans of influence, and quickly attained a position of prominence in general religious work. Dr. Krotel's pastorate continued until 1895, when he resigned and was succeeded in 1896 by Rev. C. Armand Miller, D.D. Dr. Miller's pastorate developed a spirit of loyalty and activity among the young people of the Church and culminated in building the present beautiful church edifice, which was consecrated in 1904. With Dr. Miller's resig nation in 1908, Rev. Charles J. Smith, became pastor. The congregation again found itself m a downtown district of the great metropolis striving to make its ministry permanent in the commun ity where it is now located and where it feels that it occupies a.
