Family of Gottlieb Joecks (1845-1909), son of Michael and Sophia Joecks, who was born in Horst, Pommern, Prussia. He was (1) married to Wilhelmina Panter (1845-1873) of Mecklenburg in 1869; (2) to Augusta Knoll (1857-1927) in 1873. Augusta was the daughter of Wilhelm Albert Knoll and Minnie Duenow. She was born in Doringshagen, Pommern, Prussia. She came to America in 1862. Gottlieb Joecks emigrated from Prussia to Wisconsin via Quebec in 1865. He was naturalized in Wood County, Grand Rapids on Nov. 2, 1868. He changed his surname Joecks into Jacks after leaving his farm to come to Milwaukee around World War I. He had thirteen children born in Wisconsin.
