For Jason and Marius, the word exciting doesnt exist in their world. They seek to travel to Old Earth to see what the world looked like before ice covered most of it and before the sun had grown pale. The elders remind the two time travelers that no one has attempted this journey in the last 500 years; the last group never returned. Even though this trip to the twenty-first century is wrought with danger, Jason, Marius and six others of Heliotropes brilliant souls travel to this strange world of contrasts, grim realities, fantastic happenings, and far more magic than in their own idealistic Heliotrope. After their arrival in Old Earth, members leave the group to pursue their own lives and their own interestsfacing an array of challenges and triumphsas Jason, a disembodied spirit, tells their stories. The centuries of living in Old Earth have not left them without the pain of love and life. Before returning to Heliotrope in time for the Light Festival, the eight friends must cast off their emotional scars. The centuries have passed quickly, and in Paris they must solve their dilemmas before their return.

The Rime petrose, Dante's powerful lyrics about a woman as beautiful and as hard as a precious stone, are generally acknowledged to be an important moment in his stylistic development. In this full-length investigation of the poetics of the petrose and of their relation to TheDivine Comedy, Robert M. Durling and Ronald L. Martinez uncover new material, especially from medieval science (astrology and mineralogy), philosophy, and theology. The authors argue that the Rime petrose represent a major turning point in Dante's conception of a "microcosmic poetics" that became the fundamental mode of the Commedia. They demonstrate how Dante here attempts his first full account of his relation to the universe as a whole. This work offers many insights into the intrinsic significance of these remarkable poems and their place in Dante's development. Especially far-reaching are the implications for the interpretation of TheDivine Comedy.Time and the Crystal will interest not only students of Dante but also intellectual historians, historians of science, students of poetics and poetic theory, and all those interested in medieval literature. This new interdisciplinary collection of writing explores the achievements of the Rossettis in the context of the Victorian era and in the light of modern cultural and literary criticism. 'Outsiders Looking In' considers the position that the Anglo-Italian Rossettis occupied in the cultural melee of mid-Victorian London, a status that was both central and fringe owing to their dual nationality.

This is the first commentary on the letters of Marcus Cornelius Fronto (c. 90-95 - c. 167). It aims at an extensive grammatical, stylistic and historical interpretation of the letters and the ancient testimonies on Fronto. The author demonstrates where Fronto stands in Latin literature; hence the numerous quotations of parallel, similar and dissentient passages from Fronto and other writers. The letters are written in a pure, simple style, with a great deal of colloquialisms and many a post-classical turn of phrase. The many archaisms show how Fronto as a philologist had a comprehensive knowledge of pre-Cicero Latin. This commentary, based on the Teubner-edition by the author (Leipzig 1988), offers a thorough explanation of Fronto's style and language, e.g. of his archaisms and colloquialisms, identification of the persons mentioned, and the chronology of the letters. Seven elaborate indices complete this book.
