The Parting of Shadows is now split into three parts - Part one: Livid's past is a complete mystery. She was found at night in the warm sands of the great desert. Only a newborn, she was thought to be dreadfully ill because of her total lack of color. Her skin was as pale as snow, and even her blood was dark-gray in color. She now lives the solitary life of a shepherdess on the edge of the very desert where she was found some nineteen years earlier. In this environment, Livid has learned to take care of herself, and she fears nothing . . . Nothing, that is, except water! Living in the driest place on the world of Riven, she knows very little of this strange fluid, but seas of water haunt her dreams, and thus she fears it with debilitating terror. Meanwhile, far to the west, a bard named Curesoon has been seeking to find his family. Thus engaged, he steps into the shadows of the black bog Miremurk, and unknowingly embarks upon an adventure that will draw in many, including even the gray-maiden named Livid.

Returning to Greenway to start a new life accompanied by their newly invested Sword Master, Albern. After fulfilling his duties as Trabant to the young Prince Batair, Albern has more than earned his new position as Sword Master of Greenway. Finding plenty has changed to his homeland after twenty-one cycles, the former spy finds not all is right. Especially when it comes to an arrogant Chamberlain. There is also a beautiful red-haired woman that literally drops into his arms. Her curves intrigue him as much as her refusal to speak. As she offers no name, he calls her "Amaryllis" as the colour of her hair reminds him to the delicate bloom. No one knows her full story. Only she was rescued from a long captivity at the abusive hands of the Dishonoured. Reminders can be seen in the scars that cross her body. Can the largest and strongest of all the Elite Warriors work out what Arawn's mortal agents have planned for Greenway? Will he be able to protect his Lady and new Lord? and what is the name of his beautiful Amaryllis?

Paul John Eakin's earlier work Fictions in Autobiography is a key text in autobiography studies. In it he proposed that the self that finds expression in autobiography is in fundamental ways a kind of fictive construct, a fiction articulated in a fiction. In this new book Eakin turns his attention to what he sees as the defining assumption of autobiography: that the story of the self does refer to a world of biographical and historical fact. Here he shows that people write autobiography not in some private realm of the autonomous self but rather in strenuous engagement with the pressures that life in culture entails. In so demonstrating, he offers fresh readings of autobiographies by Roland Barthes, Nathalie Sarraute, William Maxwell, Henry James, Ronald Fraser, Richard Rodriguez, Henry Adams, Patricia Hampl, John Updike, James McConkey, and Lillian Hellman. In the introduction Eakin makes a case for reopening the file on reference in autobiography, and in the first chapter he establishes the complexity of the referential aesthetic of the genre, the intricate interplay of fact and fiction in such texts. In subsequent chapters he explores some of the major contexts of reference in autobiography: the biographical, the social and cultural, the historical, and finally, underlying all the rest, the somatic and temporal dimensions of the lived experience of identity. In his discussion of contemporary theories of the self, Eakin draws especially on cultural anthropology and developmental psychology.

Calamitous was born during a fearfully stormy night. His twin brother, Salubrious, was born as that same storm began to calm and the night become peaceful. This was seen as a sign that Calamitous and Salubrious were two sides of the same promised savior. Yet, sometimes great expectations put undue pressure upon those who bear them - especially when it was foretold that the savior would defeat a cruel and cunning Dragon, destroy the Tree of Deepshadows, and heal the Tree-Glimmering. Meanwhile, a young woman named Propitious is thrust into the world of adulthood, and the journey is proving to be painful. Will she allow her woes and sorrows to darken her heart, or will she keep her eyes trained upon the promise of hope?

What if you could live forever? The Fountainis an odyssey about a man's thousand-year struggle to save the woman he loves. In three separate lives-Tomas the conquistador, Tommy the scientist, and Tom the explorer-Thomas is driven to discover the mysteries of life; all three stories converge into one truth as he comes to terms with life, death, love, and rebirth. The book is an extension of Aronofsky's cinematic vision, and will contain production stills of the film's stars Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz, original script, original art, and observations from creators Ari Handel and Darren Aronofsky. Edited by Darren Aronofsky,The Fountainis not so much a tie-in or a behind-the-scenes look at the film, but rather a thoughtful meditation on the film's provocative themes of life and death and its singular visuals.
