RTI developed the check for housing units missed (CHUM) methodology to compensate for housing unit undercoverage of address-based sampling (ABS) frames for in-person, area probability surveys. The CHUM systematically identifies housing units missing from the ABS frame, giving each housing unit a chance of selection with known probability. The CHUM poses several advantages over alternative supplementation approaches. Because only a subset of housing units within selected areas must be evaluated, the CHUM is less costly than supplementation techniques that require the verification of all addresses within selected areas. Because it is conducted after housing units are selected instead of the frame-building stage, the CHUM provides timelier frame updates. This paper presents details for designing ABS studies that incorporate the CHUM, appropriately incorporating missed units into area probability samples, and training field personnel to implement the CHUM. It also compares the CHUM with other frame supplementation approaches and discusses the advantages and limitations of each approach.

Mary and Bickerman are the center of their circle of friends--but these friends are strangers as well as family to them. In the course of year, under the influence of a stressful wedding and a whole lot of alcohol, relationships and nerves are twisted and broken as the dynamics of the cozy-seeming group shift. Secrets are kept, emotions withheld, and it doesn't look like it's going to end well for anyone. Told always in first person, but not the same person, and unfolding in double-helix chronology that provides a Rashomon-like narration, Chum is the story of love, liquor, and death.

"Be warned: Chum is a sex-obsessed, scatological, deeply offensive, violent, disturbed, grim, funny, and horrific allegory, peopled by predatory sailors, murderous seahags, disillusioned bargirls, one shipwrecked porn star, and a degenerate legion of mentally retrograde alcoholic hicks and inbred grotesques."--BOOK JACKET.

This book is a study of Salpuri-Chum, a traditional Korean dance for expelling evil spirits. The authors explore the origins and practice of Salpuri-Chum. The ancient Korean people viewed their misfortunes as coming from evil spirits; therefore, they wanted to expel the evil spirits to recover their happiness. The music for Salpuri-Chum is called Sinawi rhythm. It has no sheet music and lacks the concept of metronomic technique. In this rhythm, the dancer becomes a conductor. Salpuri-Chum is an artistic performance that resolves the people’s sorrow. In many cases, it is a form of sublimation. It is also an effort to transform the pain of reality into beauty, based on the Korean people’s characteristic merriment. It presents itself, then, as a form of immanence. Moreover, Salpuri-Chum is unique in its use of a piece of white fabric. The fabric, as a symbol of the Korean people’s ego ideal, signifies Salpuri-Chum’s focus as a dance for resolving their misfortunes.
