Excerpt: ...and Massachusetts names "self-abuse" along with abortion and prevention of conception. /"LEAR and definite laws on contraception are found on the statute books of the States of Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, New Jersey, New York, Nevada, North Dakota, Oklahoma and Wyoming--eighteen--as well as Porto Rico, Ontario and the United States federal government. The federal laws are quite full in expression, and perhaps served as model for most of the States. If a court regards written matter relating to contraception or means to accomplish this as "obscene, vulgar and indecent," then laws apply also in the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin--twentythree in number. In some States a limitation is "if they manifest a tendency to corrupt the morals of youth" or morals generally. "Articles and instruments of immoral use or purpose" are denounced, but no specific purpose or object of such is set out in the laws of Connecticut, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Utah.
