Excerpt from The American Rowing Almanac and Oarsman's Pocket Companion, 1874 It was a great source of pleasure and pride to find my little work of so much practical service - as at all the numer ous races and regattas which I attended I saw it in many hands, and often used. The second issue, '74, now in your possession, is much more perfect and beautiful in its mechanical construction than the first, and in the Appendix to the Almanac of which is added to this edition, will be found a number of corrections and records of races previously omitted on account of the very imperfect reports of aquatic events prior to the establishment of Our Boating Department in the Tmf, Field and Farm, and which have since come to hand.
