Well do I call to mind the thoughts and views the elder Gross held, when considering the possibility of organizing the American Surgical Association. Could he have realized how great was to have been his reward, in the excellent work accomplished in less than a quarter of a century, what comfort would have been his. At Atlanta, at the Isles Of Shoals, at other vacation resorts, in conversation, this is the association he prophesied would, in time, represent the surgery of this country. For me to review historically all that has been accomplished, and of which I have been personally cognizant, would indeed be bringing coals to Newcastle.
