Academic redshirting is a decision many parents face each year. Parents are determining whether their age ready child should begin kindergarten, or wait another year to begin their first formal year of education. The aim of this study is to determine if there is a difference in parent and teacher opinion on the issue of academic redshirting in our schools today. Participants in the Midwest were given an anonymous survey through Survey Monkey, which asked for their demographics, as well as their opinion on several yes-no questions related to academic redshirting. The findings suggest that there is a difference in opinion between parents and teachers on some issues around academic redshirting. The opinions of parents and teachers tend to differ when the questions revolved around when a child, who is age ready, should begin kindergarten. As well as, questions pertaining to whether or not withholding a child from kindergarten an extra year is academically beneficial.
