This report presents a cost analysis of Styrene/Acrylonitrile (SAN) copolymer production from styrene and acrylonitrile. The process examined is a typical bulk polymerization process. In this process the continuous mass copolymerization of acrylonitrile and styrene to Styrene-Acrylonitrile Resin takes place in the presence of small quantities of ethylbenzene. The reaction product is submitted to a devolatilization step where monomers are recovered and recycled. The SAN melt passes through an extrusion and pelletizing system, is packed and stored. This report was developed based essentially on the following reference(s): "Acrylonitrile Polymers, Survey and Styrene-Acrylonitile (SAN)", Kirk-Othmer Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology, 5th edition; Keywords: SAN Resin, Styrene-Acrylonitrile Copolymer

This report presents a cost analysis of Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) polymer. The process examined is a typical ABS emulsion polymerization process. In this process, butadiene is first polymerized in the presence of water, forming a latex. The polybutadiene latex is submitted to a grafting reaction with styrene and acrylonitrile monomers. The graft latex is mixed with a SAN Latex produced separately. Final ABS product is then isolated from latex, dried, extruded and bagged. This report was developed based essentially on the following reference(s): "Polystyrene and Styrene Copolymers", Ullmann's Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry, 7th edition Keywords: SAN Resin, Thermoplastics

This report presents a cost analysis of a typical Aluminum Chloride production process from aluminum metal and chlorine. In the process, chlorine gas is passed through molten aluminum in ceramic-lined, tube-shaped reactors, producing Anhydrous Aluminum Chloride. This report was developed based essentially on the following reference(s): (1) "Aluminum Chloride", McKetta, J., Inorganic Chemicals Handbook. Vol. 1 (2) "Aluminum Compounds, Inorganic", Ullmann's Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry, 7th edition Keywords: Aluminum Trichloride, Aluminum Scrap, Anhydrous Aluminum Chloride

This report presents a cost analysis of Styrene production from ethane and benzene. The process examined is based on concepts proposed in patents issued to Dow and Snamprogetti. In this process, ethylbenzene (EB) is first generated from benzene feedstock and recycled ethylene. Then, fresh ethane and the EB are fed to a dehydrogenation reactor to simultaneously form ethylene, which is recycled, and Styrene as final product. Pure hydrogen is also generated as by-product. This report was developed based essentially on the following reference(s): Keywords: Styrene Monomer, SM, Ethylbenzene, Ethylene, Benzene, Alkylation, Dow, Snamprogetti

Fundamentals of Petroleum Refining presents the fundamentals of thermodynamics and kinetics, and it explains the scientific background essential for understanding refinery operations. The text also provides a detailed introduction to refinery engineering topics, ranging from the basic principles and unit operations to overall refinery economics. The book covers important topics, such as clean fuels, gasification, biofuels, and environmental impact of refining, which are not commonly discussed in most refinery textbooks. Throughout the source, problem sets and examples are given to help the reader practice and apply the fundamental principles of refining. Chapters 1-10 can be used as core materials for teaching undergraduate courses. The first two chapters present an introduction to the petroleum refining industry and then focus on feedstocks and products. Thermophysical properties of crude oils and petroleum fractions, including processes of atmospheric and vacuum distillations, are discussed in Chapters 3 and 4. Conversion processes, product blending, and alkylation are covered in chapters 5-10. The remaining chapters discuss hydrogen production, clean fuel production, refining economics and safety, acid gas treatment and removal, and methods for environmental and effluent treatments. This source can serve both professionals and students (on undergraduate and graduate levels) of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering, Chemistry, and Chemical Technology. Beginners in the engineering field, specifically in the oil and gas industry, may also find this book invaluable. - Provides balanced coverage of fundamental and operational topics - Includes spreadsheets and process simulators for showing trends and simulation case studies - Relates processing to planning and management to give an integrated picture of refining

Composites are a class of material, which receives much attention not only because it is on the cutting edge of active material research fields due to appearance of many new types of composites, e.g., nanocomposites and bio-medical composites, but also because there are a great deal of promises for their potential applications in various industries ranging from aerospace to construction due to their various outstanding properties. This book mainly deals with fabrication and property characterization of various composites by focusing on the following topics: functional and structural nanocomposites, numerical and theoretical modelling of various damages in long fiber reinforced composites and textile composites, design, processing and manufacturing technologies and their effects on mechanical properties of composites, characterization of mechanical and physical properties of various composites, and metal and ceramic matrix composites. This book has been divided into five sections to cover the above contents.
