In 2020, the project ‘Stepping Up to Global Challenges (SGC): Empowering Students across the World’ was launched, during the difficult period when the COVID-19 pandemic was spreading across the globe and causing the lockdown of several activities. Education was also severely affected, but, even if the response widely varied at the time, remote learning, telecollaboration and project-based approaches were adopted by many teachers, “encourag[ing] learners to take an active role in their own learning process and to learn how to collaborate successfully with others in order to solve real world challenges” (Mont & Masats, 2018, p. 93). At the Polytechnic of Viseu (Portugal), Ege University (Turkey) and UTH University (Poland), four teachers of English decided to embrace the idea of diluting frontiers and exploring the potential of Information and Communication Technologies through telecollaboration, in which the students developed tasks around the topic of entrepreneurship. Stepping Up to Global Challenges (SGC2): Learning English while Fighting the Outbreak of Covid-19 is a funded project that started in March 2021 and ends in March 2022. Funding for the project was obtained via Apoios Especiais do PV, Tipologia: Projetos que se destinem a implementar metodologias de aprendizagem ativa. With the breakout of COVID-19, the current decade has brought a plethora of challenges and opportunities requiring a significant shift in our lives, most importantly, in the area of education. Throughout most of 2020, the pandemic presented many issues, requiring us to broaden our thinking and harness our creativity to develop and adopt solutions. At that time, the sudden shift did not leave us much time to reflect on these changes. We are now in a time of 'great innovation' within English for Academic Purposes (EAP) contexts. To this end, the volume shares the experiences and reflections of different stakeholders (including EAP practitioners, teacher trainers, assessment specialists and educational leaders) and their response to the unexpected challenges and opportunities brought about by the pandemic. The chapters specifically focus on how the pandemic has influenced and shaped our lives and future plans in the creation of our 'new normal'.

Kasinomi is a book as eclectic, mysterious and colourful as the places and people it explores. eKasi, the lokasie, the South African township, once an apartheid ghetto, is today an amazingly transformed place. This township today is an eclectic mix of mansions, shacks, spaza shops, rocking taverns, hawkers, taxis and hot wheels. In this kasi there are vibrant businesses, energetic people, a tightly networked social community and abundant hope. That is not to say there isn't extreme poverty, suffering and dissatisfaction, particularly on the peripheries in the huge shack settlements, but to paint the place as a slum is a massive mistake. Kasinomi attempts to cast a light on the invisible matrix at the heart of South Africa's informal economies and the people who live in them. Living and doing business in African marketplaces requires an ethos uniquely suited to the informal, to the invisible, to the intangible. Kasinomi will take you down those rural pathways, weave between claustrophobic mazes of shacks, browse a muti market, visit a spirit returning ceremony and save money with gogo in a stokvel among many more people and places. After almost twenty years of focusing on marketing to the informal sector, GG Alcock, CEO of specialist marketing company Minanawe, showcases a number of groundbreaking and very successful case studies in this invisible informal world. His vivid anecdotes and life experiences and how they link to understanding and inspiration for business ideas will make you gasp, laugh and shake your head in wonder.

Public–private partnerships (PPPs) play an increasingly prominent role in addressing global development challenges. United Nations agencies and other organizations are relying on PPPs to improve global health, facilitate access to scientific information, and encourage the diffusion of climate change technologies. For this reason, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development highlights their centrality in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). At the same time, the intellectual property dimensions and implications of these efforts remain under-examined. Through selective case studies, this illuminating work contributes to a better understanding of the relationships between PPPs and intellectual property considered within a global knowledge governance framework, that includes innovation, capacity-building, technological learning, and diffusion. Linking global governance of knowledge via intellectual property to the SDGs, this is the first book to chart the activities of PPPs at this important nexus.
