India is making all possible efforts for mass education and equalization of educational opportunities for its people. But the task of providing adequate educational facilities for its vast population proves to be too heavy a burden for the government. Private schools, therefore, have made a niche in the country. This book makes a comparative study of government and private high schools in Mizoram regarding different aspects—infrastructural facilities, teachers, qualifications, training, workload, salary and other benefits, scholastic as well as co-curricular activities, academic achievements, and parents' expenditure on their children's education. The study of socio-economic status of parents and their preferences for schools also make part of the book.

This book explores how the transnational Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) policy is being translated into formal school education in India. Stephanie Leder investigates the ESD’s transformative potential for pedagogic practice and builds a set of principles for how the global objectives of the ESD can be interpreted in diverse socio-cultural contexts. Her approach for transformative pedagogic practice emphasizes the promotion of a critical consciousness through argumentation skills. Using the case of water conflicts in geography education in India, the book reveals the contradictions between ESD objectives and curricula, syllabi, textbooks and classroom teaching at secondary schools in Pune, Maharashtra. Leder’s approach demonstrates how principles of schooling can be altered towards learner-centered, problem-posing and network-thinking teaching approaches to empower students towards reflective decision-making on the sustainable use of natural resources.

This is a study of higher education in the world's four largest developing economies—Brazil, Russia, India, and China. Already important players globally, by mid-century, they are likely to be economic powerhouses. But whether they reach that level of development will depend in part on how successfully they create quality higher education that puts their labor forces at the cutting edge of the information society. Using an empirical, comparative approach, this book develops a broad picture of the higher education system in each country in the context of both global and local forces. The authors offer insights into how differing socioeconomic and historic patterns of change and political contexts influence developments in higher education. In asking why each state takes the approach that it does, this work situates a discussion of university expansion and quality in the context of governments' educational policies and reflects on the larger struggles over social goals and the distribution of national resources.

Education is a positive construct which empowers people to make use of its potentialities in the best ways to achieve excellence. Research in this endeavour tries to resolve various problems related to education, educational process and educational advancements. Thereby, keeping education updated and advanced in turn preparing updated positive and constructive citizens of the society. Today an educated person is expected to be equipped with the most advanced knowledge, skills, humane values and digitalisation, including evaluation of existing policies and bringing out components & variables to be covered by forthcoming policies. Thus, research is positively correlated with the human and material development, ensuring humane and developed society. The strength of an institution is reflected by the researches undertaken by the members over there. It gives me immense pleasure to note that survey of research abstracts in Faculty of Education, Banaras Hindu University has been completed and ready for its publication in hard and soft mode. The present volume includes 256 abstracts since 1952, including most recent D.Litt. abstract in education. This survey no doubt presents a trend of researches understudy. These abstracts will certainly pave educational paths to solving recent educational issues. A commendable contribution has been done by the team of publication. This will have a long-term impact on future researchers. Moreover, preservation of research knowledge, covering 33 identified educational areas and its dissemination were much needed and expected for the cause of quality research. I am sure, the volume will serve its qualitative purpose to researchers, teachers, administrators and policy-makers in India and abroad. We are grateful to Prof.D.P.Singh, Chairman, University Grants Commission, New Delhi (India) for writing foreword for this volume and motivating us. I convey my heartfelt gratitude to all the members of publication team for their concerted efforts in bringing out this precious volume. Date: 13th April, 2020 (Prof. R.P.
