It's summer of 1899 and the state of Wyoming has been unresponsive for an increasingly alarming amount of time. No mail nor telegram communication has ever been sent out or responsive, which has prompted the United States Postal Inspection Service to investigate. The inspector general has selected US Postal Inspector Jed Pluck from Boston, Massachusetts to team up with another postal inspector named Louie Secoli to investigate these towns along the railroad. The peculiarity of this case, in contrast to others they had investigated previously, is that the only evidence they have is a strange, large black-red feather, sharp enough to slice through skin. Leaving his family once again, Jed hitches the train with Louie, and they set off for Wyoming. Upon arriving in Cheyenne, they found Wyoming's capital deserted-and covered in the very same peculiar feathers. The next few towns along the railroad all share the same description: no bodies in sight and covered in the same feathers. Only one town along the railway has been spared from the disappearances. Lemonstown, a town near the Red Desert, remains active but unaware of the fate of the other towns. Fearing that Lemonstown would be the next town to be raided, the two postal inspectors must solve the mystery of the strange creature and help the townspeople before Lemonstown becomes the next ghost town covered in feathers.

Kari, a young woman, returns to the jungle planet of Dora after ten years in Earth's schools determined to unravel the mysteries surrounding the harpies, a feral species with the appearance half-bird, half-human. The human colonists believe harpies are dangerous animals, which are known to steal women. The creatures are hunted like wild game, their wings considered rare trophies. But Kari distrusts these rumors. When she was attacked by a monster in the jungle as a child, a male harpy with rare golden coloring rescued her. Constant hunting by men has driven the harpies to the brink of extinction. Is Kari's savior, the elegant golden harpy, is still alive? If so, how long can he and his flock survive the ravages of mankind? Susan Klaus's Flight of the Golden Harpy is an imaginative and romantic fantasy novel that questions what it means to be human. Rowan faces her most dangerous monster-slaying challenge yet, confronting what could be the most infamous monster of all, in the third book in this fantastical series by New York Times bestselling author, Kelley Armstrong. Rowan is Tamarel's Royal Monster Hunter, and her twin brother, Rhydd, will be its king. After the events of The Gryphon's Lair, Rowan, along with her friends, her brother and an entourage of monstrous companions, makes her way back to the Dunnian Woods to deal with the pack of dropbears the group trapped in an abandoned cabin after a vicious attack. The dropbears are just one of a number of rare monster species acting erratically in Tamarel. After a swarm of colocolos nearly tramples the group, Rowan becomes convinced that someone (or something) is driving these monsters out of their natural habitats. But nothing can prepare the Royal Monster Hunter for the truth of the matter: monsters even bigger and deadlier than gryphons have returned to the world, and their nest-building, as well as the actions of the humans trying to drive them out, has upset the balance of nature in Tamarel. Do Rowan's "monster magnet" skills work against the most fearsome monsters imaginable? Find out in this exciting third book in the Royal Guide to Monster Slaying series!

Greg Hart can't slay a dragon. He'd be lucky to win a fight against one of the smaller girls at school. His only real skill is that he can run faster than any other twelve-year-old boy in his class, a necessity, since that's who he's usually running from. Oh, it's not like he's never been the hero at the center of an adventure. It's just the kind of adventures he's been involved with have always been the made-up kind he's written about in his journal. Now the magicians of Myrth have yanked Greg into a strange new world, where the monsters he must run from are far scarier--and hungrier--than anything he's ever run from before. He tries to tell everyone there's been a mistake. Ruuan is a very large dragon, while Greg, on the other hand, is neither large nor a dragon. He's barely much of a boy. Unfortunately, such trivialities could never stop the people of Myrth from believing Greg will rescue King Peter's daughter from Ruuan. After all, Greg has been named in a prophecy, and no prophecy has ever been wrong before. Why, Greg wonders, does he have to be at the heart of the first one that is?

"Vital Souls relates in an ethnographic fashion how the Bororo Indians of central Brazil understand their lives in terms of the bope, describing how they employ shamanism and symbolic thought to deal with illness and accident, sex and marriage, birth and death, and how they relate the human life cycle to natural processes. More central to the investigation, the author reveals how shamans of the aroe have disappeared from Bororo life. This is the first volume of the series, The Anthropology of Form and Meaning."--
