Excerpt from Sketch of the Life and Character of John Lacey, a Brigadier General in the Revolutionary Army Perhaps it will not be inappropriate, at this time and in this place, to give a little account of the Lacey family. Their primogenial ancestor here was William Lacey. He emigrated from England, we believe from the Isle of Wight, and was among the early settlers in the neighborhood of Wrightstown. His son John married Rachel Heston in 1718. From this connection there were eleven children, four or five of whom died in their minority. Only thieo of the whole number married, namely: Rachel, to John Terry, in 1738; John to Jane Chap man, 1746; and Joseph to Esther Warner, in 1749 or 1750.
