Excerpt from Sir John Vanbrugh, Vol. 2 One scene alone in le False Friend - the first of the fourth act, between Guzman and Jacinta - is originally Vanbrugh's: I am afraid it cannot be reckoned a brilliant effort of his genius. He has made some consequent alterations in the subsequent scene, in which Guzman con verses with Jacinta, and afterwards with Leonora, through the hole in the wall. With Le Sage, Don Garcie (guzman) frankly avows that he sought Leonora's chamber at night pour satisfaire son amour. He makes no attempt, as with Vanbrugh, to convince her of his innocence; sullenly accepts his dismissal; and ends by promising that she shall never see him more. In the Spanish piece he speaks to much the same purpose as with Le Sage. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
