The truth behind the lies. It was an unforgettable scene. Dina Matos McGreevey, an attractive woman in her mid-thirties, wife, mother, and First Lady of the state of New Jersey, watched silently as her husband, then New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevey, resigned his office with the revelation that he was a "gay American." The picture of grace and loyalty, perfectly composed in her pale blue suit, Dina Matos McGreevey gave no sign of the tangled mixture of fear, sorrow, and anger she felt that day, no hint of the devastation that was to come. Since then she has been asked repeatedly about the nature of her marriage, about what she knew and when she knew it. Since then, she has remained silent. Until now. Speaking up at last, Dina Matos McGreevey here recounts the details of her marriage to Jim McGreevey. What emerges is a tale of love and betrayal, of heartbreak and scandal . . . and, ultimately, hope. It all began with so much promise. Dina Matos was a responsible and civic-minded young woman who fell in love with the passion of political action. When Jim McGreevey walked into her life, he appeared to be a kind and loving man, someone with whom she could build a life based on shared ideals, a strong spiritual commitment, and a desire to make a difference in the world. Beyond their initial chemistry, Dina Matos was attracted by Jim McGreevey's principles and his unwavering devotion to his work. She didn't know that his life, and thus their marriage, were built on a foundation of lies; that his past was littered with casual sexual encounters in seedy bookstores and public parks; or that, by his own admission, he began an adulterous affair with another man while she was in the hospital awaiting the birth of their child. "Could I have known," she asks. "How could I have known?" With scalding honesty, she tells of her life with the former governor, of the politics and public service that brought them together, and the lies that tore them apart. Here is a story of a marriage that was anything but happily-ever-after, told by a strong and resilient woman who can, and finally will, speak for herself.

"Homer, a bold and smart-mouthed angel, has been in isolation for nine-hundred years. She misbehaves and tests the boundaries of God, which was what put her in isolation in the first place--. Despite her fussiness and track record of failure, she's sent to Earth to do what needs to be done. Her mission is to help Tom Summers, a struggling columnist for an expanding magazine empire in Los Angeles -- to Homer, the epicenter of Western egocentrism and inauthenticity. She must help him publish a book that would ultimately change Earth's fate".

From our daily practice as scholars, consultants and entrepreneurs we know how critical it is to make the right decisions that can shape the future of a company. One of the earliest of such decisions is surely the selection of the appropriate legal form as it is hardly reversible and has major implications on the running business. Accordingly, we can nd a wealth of information about the pros and cons of speci c legal forms. However, so far there is only scarce information available once you decide to enter a foreign market. There are offerings, e.g. from the Chambers of Commerce and you can search the Internet. When information is provided in the local language, comprehension becomes dif cult. Furthermore, the material that is available today only seldom allows for a structured analysis and comparison of legal forms in different countries. From discussions with entrepreneurs we know that this situation has not only been cumbersome for us, but actually everybody who is thinking about starting up a business or widening the operations across country borders is faced with the complex task of deciding on a legal form.

Wild Ride is Ann Hagedorn Auerbach's award-winning chronicle of the tragic story behind the downfall of horse racing's crown jewel. Founded in 1924 by Chicago mogul William Monroe Wright, Calumet Farm was to the world of thoroughbred racing what the New York Yankees are to baseball--a sports dynasty. The stable bred so many superstars that it became the standard by which all achievements were measured in the horse racing industry. But during the 1980s, a web of financial schemes left Calumet destitute. Auerbach's account is an investigation of the fast-track, multibillion-dollar thoroughbred industry and the fall of Calumet--the inside story of a debacle that extended further than anyone could have imagined. Spanning four generations, this fast-paced saga brings to life a gallery of colorful characters from Calumet's glittery past. Wild Ride shows the industry's transformation from a clubby blue-blood society where a handshake closed a deal to a high-stakes business bulging with bankers and scandalous deal making. When the Bluegrass Bubble exploded, one of America's largest family fortunes lay in ruins. "A fascinating tale with a cast of characters worthy of Dickens -- or Runyon." -- Carl Desens, BusinessWeek

The limited liability company (GmbH) was created by the German legislature in 1892 as a company form without any historical forerunners or suggestions from comparative law. It brought about a readjustment of the relationship between the chance of profit and the liability risk. However, criticism from the jurisprudence that had not been included in the quick legislative process was also heard from the start. As early as 1892, Levin Goldschmidt expressed concern that the GmbH would replace 'principally more solid forms of company'. However, this criticism did not prevent the company form of the GmbH from being adopted in numerous European countries, or at least seriously considering its reception.
