Excerpt from Seventh Annual Report on the Statistics of Railways in the United States for the Year Ending June 30, 1894 With the exception Of the case referred to above, that is to say, the reclassification Of railway mileage between Oklahoma and Indian Terri tory, which reduces the mileage assigned to Indian Territory by miles, the cases Of decrease in railway mileage are due to abandonment Of track. The aggregate not decrease of those States which Show a decrease in railway mileage not otherwise accounted for is miles. The length of line abandoned during the year is not abnormally great when compared with previous years. It is the failure of certain States to construct the usual amount Of new mileage that enables the mileage of abandoned track to cut any figure in the above summary.
