Limits are reported on right-handed currents, based on precise measurement of the e spetrum end point in .mu.+ decay. Highly polarized muons from the TRIUMF surface beam were stopped in metal foils within a 1.1 T spin-holding longitudinal field or a 70 G spin-precessing field. For the spin-held data, the V-A rate vanishes in the beam direction at the end point. Measurement of this sets the 90% confidence limits xi P/sub mu[delta]rho> 0.9959 and M(W/sub R/)> 380 GeV, where W/sub R/ is the possible right-handed gauge boson. The .mu. SR signal amplitude of the spin-precessed data independently sets the limits xi P/sub .mu./delta/rho> 0.9918 and M(W/sub R/)> 320 GeV. Limits on non-(V-A) currents, familons, and composite leptons are also presented. 27 references.

I have seen no review comparable to the excellent summary of electric dipole moments by S Barr and W Marciano … the volume offers a generally readable entry into this field for a reader who has a basic background in particle physics.” John F Donoghue Science “… this book performs a very useful service for anyone active or interested in CP violation, both as a source of primary information and as a work of reference.” K J Peach J Phys. High precision measurements of weak neutral current and charged current processes and of the properties of the Z and W bosons have established the standard electroweak model as correct down to a distance scale of 10-16 cm, and are a sensitive probe of possible underlying physics. In this book, all aspects of the program are considered in detail, including the structure of the standard model, radiative corrections, high precision experiments, and their implications. The major classes of experiments are surveyed, covering the experiments themselves, the data analysis, results, and prospects. This volume is a detailed reference for theoretical and experimental researchers, as well as an introductory text for advanced students.
