Finalist for the 2017 Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Award in the Religion category In this series of essays, Thomas J. J. Altizer explores the Christian epic as the site of modern revolutionary apocalyptic reenactments and renewals of the original apocalypse enacted by Jesus Christ and primitive Christianity. Beginning with the pivotal seventeenth-century figures Milton and Spinoza, Altizer analyzes the apocalyptic visions of key figures of modernity, including Blake, Hegel, Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, and Joyce, often juxtaposing them to surprising and illuminating effect. These revolutionary moments stand in opposition to what Altizer calls the pathological modern counterrevolution that dominates the world today, which is an effect of a new postmodernity and of a progressive dissolution of historical consciousness. Through his analysis of modern apocalyptic moments and thinkers, this book becomes an elegant and accessible guide to Altizer's own apocalyptic vision and his ultimate project of the total and comprehensive reconstruction of theology.

Who Will Usher in Earth’s Final Days? Are we living in the end times? Is it possible that the players depicted in the book of Revelation could be out in force today? And if they are, would you know how to recognize them? In Agents of the Apocalypse, noted prophecy expert Dr. David Jeremiah does what no prophecy expert has done before. He explores the book of Revelation through the lens of its major players—the exiled, the martyrs, the elders, the victor, the king, the judge, the 144,000, the witnesses, the false prophet, and the beast. One by one, Dr. Jeremiah delves into their individual personalities and motives, and the role that each plays in biblical prophecy. Then he provides readers with the critical clues and information needed to recognize their presence and power in the world today. The stage is set, and the curtain is about to rise on Earth’s final act. Will you be ready?

Offers a profound vision of the Christian epic as the site of the modern apocalyptic reenactment of the original apocalypse. In this series of essays, Thomas J. J. Through his analysis of modern apocalyptic moments and thinkers, this book becomes an elegant and accessible guide to Altizers own apocalyptic vision and his ultimate project of the total and comprehensive reconstruction of theology. This is an indispensable work of closure coming from one of contemporary theologys most lucid, original, rebellious, provocative, and passionate voices. Altizers most central and tenaciously held convictions are distilled into this essential testament. William Franke, author of Secular Scriptures: Modern Theological Poetics in the Wake of Dante This book is vintage Altizer: a vast and profound vision of the transformations of interiority, conceptions of the world, and the idea/image of God throughout the time of Western culture. Altizer is an incredible and amazing writer and thinker. I found myself stopped dead in my tracks, left to ponder anew everything that I thought I knew. His intuitions and insights are so penetrating and enlightening that they evoke sheer wonder at the marvel of his accomplishment. David E. Klemm, coauthor of Religion and the Human Future: An Essay on Theological Humanism

Congratulations.....you were destined to be a part of a Psychiatric Apocalypse! Attention Deficit Disorder: causality for US/ Middle Eastern tensions? Bipolar Disorder: the driving force in financial markets? The Sun: responsible for the increased frequency of shooting sprees and The Opiate Crisis? (I'm sorry ......but this sounds kind of sketchy so far). But wait...... there's more! What if the author also told you that many of those who pursue higher office are infrequently reincarnated ("young souls"), thus acting like "young" children. Would it be time for the Psychiatrist to go and get his own evaluation? Psychiatric Apocalypse seeks to posit these assertions and prove the author is certifiably.........maybe on to something? John M. Aliapoulios MD, Psychiatrist and Psychopharmacologist, attempts to piece together many of humanities enduring mysteries pertaining to Psychiatry, Pop Culture, Spirituality and Metaphysics. Why did The Titanic really sink? Was Jesus mentally ill? How come people who smoke tobacco, also typically drink coffee (and probably hated school)? [HINT: It's the same reason most High Tech Companies are located on the West Coast!]. Why do bad things happen to good people? Is there really a Hell? While neurochemically attempting to prove the existence of God, he also hopes to dispatch the ossified concept of Satan. Although irritating many, he will ultimately support the assertion of a monotheistic God - One Governing Force that is responsible for everything that is "good," and everything that is "bad." The idea of an omnipotent monotheistic God is bewildering to most, it's comparable to the concept of a Pitbull puppy. Is this entity loving and loyal, or does it want to flick us about the room like a squeaky toy? All very confusing....(unless you read the book).

The Apocalypse of Moses is the Greek version of the Life of Adam and Eve. The original version is believed to have been written in a Semitic language, as there as terms transliterated into Greek from a Semitic language, however, it is not known positively which language, as the original text is lost, and so far, no fragments have been found among the Dead Sea Scrolls that can be firmly linked to it. The closest text discovered to date among the Dead Sea Scrolls would be the Genesis Apocryphon scroll, written in Aramaic and generally dated to between 37 BC to 50 AD. The original language of the Apocalypse of Moses was likely also Aramaic, as demonstrated by the use of the name Iah (Jah), which is found more commonly in Aramaic language books, like Tobit. A number of references circumstantially date the original work to the era when the Greeks ruled Judea, between 330 and 140 BC. The reference to Iah is itself evidence of a pre-Hasmonean origin, as the Hasmoneans’ authorized’ version of the Hebrew texts appear to have redacted Iah (יה) to Yahweh (יהוה) when they converted the Jews from the Canaanite (Samaritan/Paleo-Hebrew) script to the Assyrian (Hebrew) script. The name Iah (Jah) does show up in many ancient names, such as Josiah, and phrases such as Hallelujah, implying it was once widely accepted as the name of (a) God, however, virtually disappeared from the Hebrew scriptures at some point, likely during the Hasmonean redaction and standardization circa 140 BC. The reference to Lord Sabaoth (κυρίῳ σαβαωθ) is another indicator of a pre-Hasmonean origin for the text. Lord Sabaoth was the Major-General of the Lord God’s army that helped Joshua destroy the walls of Jericho in the Septuagint’s Book of Joshua. There are many references to Lord Sabaoth, the ‘Lord of War’ in the Greek era, however, during the early Hasmonean era, he became an epitaph of Iaw (Yahweh) the national God of Hasmonean Judea: Iaw Sabaoth (יהוה צבאות). The Hasmoneans redacted Lord Sabaoth from the Book of Joshua, replacing him with Yahweh (יהוה), meaning that Yahweh was the Major-General of his own army in the Masoretic version of Joshua. According to later-Hasmonean records, Yahweh Sabaoth became the Jewish version of Dionysus or Bacchus, a god of war, wine, and lust, before he was abandoned during the formation of the Pharisee sect, who rejected the pronunciation of any of the names of God.
