State of the environment (SOE) reporting is intended to provide the people of Saskatchewan with a report on the status of the province's environment and its resources. It helps us to understand how well we are managing our environmental impacts and the progress that we are making towards sustainable development. This report is composed of 4 sections: the introduction; a section on ecological land classification presented as the 1st step toward an ecosystem approach to SOE reporting; a case study of the Boreal Plain Ecozone, where information is organized in a stress-condition-response format, with sectoral focus on forest related issues; and an update on future plans for SOE reporting in Saskatchewan.
