Electricity is a concurrent subject. And as all of us know, up to 1975, generation, distribution and transmission, all were handled practically only by the State Electricity Boards. The Central Government has entered this sector only after 1975, and has played an important role by contributing about 32% of the total generation capacity of the country, Out of 1,00,000 ckm of high voltage transmission lines, about 50,000 ckm is contributed by Central Government.
