"The development of the social welfare program in Kansas indicated the need for current information about agencies and organizations interested in helping people. In response to this request the State Department of Social Welfare prepared a compilation of these social resources in 1939 under the title of a Handbook of Social Resources. Then 10 years later the material in the Handbook was revised and more agencies included. Information about many of these resources was brought up to date in 1951. The present revision represents the most recent information about social resources available to persons residing in Kansas. Although the Handbook was compiled primarily for persons engaged in organized social welfare activities, it has been of value to professional, religious, commercial, labor, social, and civic organizations interested in the health, welfare, and other social resources of Kansas"--Preface.
