All You Ever Wanted to Know About Air… And Then Some! A/C technicians should be knowledgeable about air and its properties. This program helps technicians understand the basic properties of air and how these properties relate to each other. Over the years, much has been written on the subject of Psychrometrics. However, much of this material has been geared toward engineering and system design. Psychrometrics Without Tears presents the important concepts of air in a manner that will appeal to HVAC students and service technicians. Knowing all there is to know about an air sample is pretty empowering, so this book starts by discussing the basic properties of air and how these properties relate to each other. The Psychrometric chart is introduced to provide a visual representation of how air behaves when exposed to different conditions. Once the basics of the chart are covered, we then move into some more interesting topics such as sensible heat ratio, bypass factor, and apparatus dew point temperatures. These properties help determine system performance and are very important concepts to learn in order to fully understand air. The plotting of actual systems follows next. This involves plotting out air distribution systems that are operating correctly so that we can see what properly operating systems look like on the chart. This book covers a wide range of systems that includes residential heating and cooling systems as well as commercial systems that provide ventilation air to the occupied space to meet building code requirements. Prepare to learn about mixed air systems and learn to calculate the mixed air conditions provided we know what the outside air and return air conditions are. In addition to everything mentioned already, we will discuss the concepts of ventilation, economizing and air balancing.

Enthalpy? A fancy word for heat! Over the years, much has been written on the subject of pressure enthalpy and most of it is geared toward engineers. This program presents the important concepts of pressure enthalpy in a manner that will appeal to the service technician. Each refrigerant has its own properties and these properties are compiled on the pressure enthalpy chart for that particular refrigerant. The pressure enthalpy chart enables us to create a complete picture, or "snapshot" of the entire system. With a completed pressure enthalpy plot, we can evaluate the major system components as well as calculate latent and sensible heat transfers.

During the last decade, indigenous youth from Northeast India have migrated in large numbers to the main cities of metropolitan India to find work and study. This migration is facilitated by new work opportunities in the hospitality sector, mainly as service personnel in luxury hotels, shopping malls, restaurants and airlines. Prolonged armed conflicts, militarization, a stagnant economy, corrupt and ineffective governance structures, and the harsh conditions of subsistence agriculture in their home villages or small towns impel the youth to seek future prospects outside their home region. English language skills, a general cosmopolitan outlook as well as a non-Indian physical appearance have proven to be key assets in securing work within the new hospitality industry. Leaving the Land traces the migratory journeys of these youths and engage with their new lives in cities like Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Thiruvananthapuram.

Good airflow control results when solid mechanical design is combined with excellent control strategy. Modern building requirements for the coordination of air ventilation, pressurization, temperature control, fire and smoke control, and energy reduction require integration at every level of design and operation.Dampers and Airflow Control is the first book of its kind. It bridges the gap between mechanical design and final damper control. This book covers not only theoretical aspects of application design but also practical aspects of existing applications, and the material applies to both new and retrofit projects.Among the topics discussed are new ASHRAE damper testing data, realistic but simplified pressure drop calculations, damper installations, and methods for economizers and minimum outdoor-air control. Tactics to linearize system airflow using damper response curves are also discussed, and new methods"not found in existing literature"are presented to characterize damper response to fit a process. Additional topics include torque, linkages, structural support, actuation, and engineered damper assemblies. Dampers and Airflow Control is written for building systems designers and contractors and provides sound examples and best practices to achieve good airflow control.
