Wildlife Toxicity Assessments for Chemicals of Military Concern is a compendium of chemical-specific toxicity information with discussions on the rationale and development of Wildlife Toxicity Reference Values (TRVs) intended for use on terrestrial wildlife for risk assessment applications. Substances covered include military-related chemicals including explosives, propellants, pesticides and metals. Wildlife Toxicity Assessments for Chemicals of Military Concern is a much-needed resource designed to meet the needs of those seeking toxicological information for ecological risk assessment purposes. Each chapter targets a specific chemical and considers the current knowledge of the toxicological impacts of chemicals to terrestrial wildlife including mammalian, avian, amphibian and reptilian species. - Provides detailed information on how Wildlife Toxicity Values (TRVs) for military chemicals of concern are derived and evaluated. - Covers wildlife toxicity assessments of explosives, metals and environmental chemicals. - Compiles relevant information on the environmental effects of chemicals on wildlife in relation to public and environmental health.

This book gathers papers from the International Conference on Advanced Intelligent Systems for Sustainable Development (AI2SD-2019), held on July 08–11, 2019 in Marrakech, Morocco, which address the environment, industry and economy, and the role of advanced intelligent systems and computing in connection with these three fields. The book includes a host of interesting studies and successful applications regarding the economy and industry, e.g. in Manufacturing, Digital Factories, Smart Supply Chain Management in Industry, Project Management in Industry, Digital Economy, Digital Business, M-commerce, Blockchain and Digital Currencies. In addition, the book highlights work that addresses the environmental aspect, covering topics such as Big Data Analysis & the Internet of Things for Environmental Management, Sensor Networks for Environmental Services, Network Interoperability in Environmental Ecosystems, Wireless Sensors and Cognitive Radio Networks, Environmental Management Computing Systems, Sustainable Mobility Solutions, Remote Sensing Applications, Geo-information & Geophysics. Addressing social, legislative and environmental aspects, the book is intended for all stakeholders in the industrial world. It will be of interest e.g. to customers, helping them improve their profits and economic profitability, and to professionals and fishermen working to evolve and optimize their supply chains, and to improve productivity, in the fiercely competitive I4.0 world. The authors of each chapter report on the state of the art and present the outcomes of their own research, laboratory experiments, and successful applications. The purpose of the book is to combine the idea of advanced intelligent systems with appropriate tools and techniques for modeling, management, and decision support in the fields of the environment, industry and economy.

Understanding the advancement of sustainable development is critical to managing human activities to avoid the overexploitation of resources and pollution of the environment beyond tolerable levels. Sustainable development involves not only preservation and care of the environment, but also recognition of the complex relations between economic, social and living systems. Environmental Modeling for Sustainable Regional Development: System Approaches and Advanced Methods presents processing methods and their applications, which are practical for decision making and task management at the regional level as well as for scientific studies in sustainable development assessment. This book serves as a reference guide for post-graduate students in the field of management as well as a critical guide for managers, government officials, and information professionals.

This thesis presents a comprehensive analysis of the global health impacts of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in ambient air, conducted on the basis of a high-resolution emission inventory, global chemical transport modeling, and probabilistic risk assessment. One of the main strengths of the thesis is the concentration downscaling process, which provides a linkage between emissions and exposure concentrations at a comparatively high resolution. Moreover, by focusing on individual susceptibility, the thesis proposes an instrumental revision of current risk assessment methodology and argues that, if individual susceptibility were not taken into consideration, the overall risk would be underestimated by 55% and the proportion of highly vulnerable populations would be underestimated by more than 90%.
