Proponer alternativas de solución para mejorar el proceso de fabricación y empaque de detergentes sintéticos en barra en una empresa de consumo masivo, es el propósito central de esta investigación. Para establecer las variables críticas que afectaban el proceso productivo se realizaron observaciones y seguimiento a los datos históricos. Se concluyó que los altos tiempos de cambio y los daños mecánicos que representan el 80% de los tiempos improductivos debían estudiarse con mayor profundidad para poder establecer las causas raizales y por ende combatirlas. Se realizó un estudio de tiempo que permitió hacer un seguimiento de las actividades de la mano de obra durante los cambios de producto y se propuso la redistribución y estandarización de funciones para cada operario. Se aplicó el sistema SMED para buscar la reducción en los tiempos de cambio en las operaciones y actividades de alistamiento, ajuste y limpieza de máquinas.
