Abstract: The comprehensive survey of basic and clinical research on hunger is a basic source book for physiologists, psychologists, nutritionists, pharmacologists, and clinicians. Major topic areas are: neurochemistry and neuroanatomy of hunger; the role of nutrients and energy metabolism in the control of food intake; developmental and motivational properties of hunger; set-point theory and the relationship of weight regulation and food intake; short-term regulation of feeding--patterning, peripheral, and visceral mechanisms; hunger and obesity in man.
