Excerpt from Practice in Weaving and Loom-Fixing: A Complete Manual for the Weave-Room Sunless you have one or two unsightly pieces of picking-stick to brace it down, the chances are that you will have to crawl under the loom very often to tighten the box and bark your knuckles. File across the ribs until your straight-edge shows them to be even, care being taken lest you get them slanting from either side. Fitting the pin - In 'putting the box on, take time enough to fit a good pin through both box and frame, and in such a manner as to draw the box down, so that it fits snug on the top of the frame. This is often carelessly done, and the pin, when holding the box up too high, pre vents it from obtaining a bearing on the top of the frame as well as the side. If this is the case, you cannot keep it tight, no matter how hard you tighten up the bolts. Do the job well, taking time enough for it, and you will save yourself much disagreeable duty. Excerpt from Cotton Loom Fixing The author has been a weaver, loom fixer, second hand and overseer, and is now a designer in a large New England cot ton mill. His experience has been wholly on cotton goods, embracing all kinds of cotton looms from the plain loom to the jacquard, having managed full sections of all types. He is instructor in one of the most practical textile schools in the United States. A book on practical loom fixing should be as free from technicalities as possible. The reader should be led directly to the heart of the subject. The men who are to benefit from such a book are usually working hard in the mills and at the close of the day's work are not in a condition to study or understand a mass of technical details. The object of the book is to make better workmen, get them interested and keep them interested so they will take a greater interest in their work in the mill. In this way the readers are made to feel that there is more to the art of weaving and fixing than merely throwing in a shuttle or using a wrench. Excerpt from Loom-Fixing and Weaving: A Book for All Who Are Interested in Such Matters The writer of this work when learning to fix looms tried in vain to find some book which would help him over the many difficulties he daily encountered. He found many that dealt with weaving from a theoretrical stand point, but none that would describe the troubles minutely and suggest the remedies with sufficient clearness for a beginner to understand. In after years he found there was still a demand for such a book, and to fill this demand this work has been undertaken.
