Former Chicago police officer and mafia associate Fred Pascente is the man who links Tony Spilotro, the protagonist of Nicholas Pileggi's Casino and one of Chicago's most notorious mob figures, to William Hanhardt, chief of detectives of the Chicago Police Department. Pascente and Spilotro grew up together on Chicago's near West Side, and as young toughs they were rousted and shaken down by Hanhardt. While Spilotro became the youngest made man in Chicago Outfit history, Pascente was drafted into the army and then joined the police department. Soon taken under Hanhardt's wing because of his connections, Pascente served as Hanhardt's fixer and bagman on the department for more than a decade. At the same time, Pascente remained close to Spilotro, making frequent trips to Las Vegas to party with his old friend while helping to rob the casinos blind. Mob Cop tells about the decline of traditional organized crime in the United States, and it reveals information about the inner workings of the Outfit that have never been publicly released. Fred Pascente's positions as an insider on both the criminal and law enforcement fronts makes this story a matchless tell-all.

What Would Dad Say? provides motivation and advice supported by stories relating to family, friendship, love, marriage, athletics, education, health, fitness, career planning, money, religion and death. Rules of life were developed by author, John Nitti, based on years of experience in a multitude of settings from growing up in a diverse town on Long Island to Yale University. His background also includes time in the NFL and on Wall Street. He utilized his knowledge and experience to raise four successful children with his wife, Pat, and is now sharing that in this book. Lessons learned from college professors to high-powered business executives, from well-known sports figures and team owners to entertainers, from ancient Greek philosophers to political leaders and from the very rich to the homeless are all shared. Evidence relating to everything from formulas for success to avoiding the pitfalls associated with regrettable failures provide helpful, practical examples. Life experiences and crossroads are shared in order to help others optimize their success and happiness. The original target audience was solely John’s four children; he wanted them to understand his outlook on life and some keys to success and happiness just in case anything happened to him. His thoughts of mortality were reinforced after the death of a friend and then crystalized when his brother-in-law, firefighter Brian McAleese, died in the World Trade Center during the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. As Father Mychal Judge (the New York City Firefighters’ chaplain who died when the World Trade Center collapsed) said right before the attack, “If you want to make God laugh, tell him what you’re going to do tomorrow.” While many of the rules are based on proven experiences, scientific evidence or specific facts are not provided in detail. There is plenty of research material that can always be referenced. There are also many books that are dedicated entirely to almost every subject that is addressed in only a single rule within these pages. But, What Would Day Say? is purposely simple and broad in order to cover a wide range of subjects and be memorable. It captures thoughts in the same way that one would be forced to answer on the spur of the moment, delivered in a casual conversational style. One may lead a good life by following these simple rules. Some of the rules are obvious, but we all need to be reminded. Others are more intuitive. Still others would perhaps cause quite a debate regarding their validity. But they have worked. And just as children listen to some guidance and disregard the rest, so will anyone who reads this book adhere only to some of these rules and forget the others. For in the end, it’s their choice and their life. We can’t tell people what to do, but we can help them learn from experience and foresee the consequences of their actions. It is hoped What Would Dad Say? will provide that for you.

His style was iconic, and vintage ‘80s: aviator goggles, Jheri curls, neck roll, boxy pads. Eric Dickerson is the greatest player in Los Angeles Rams history and the NFL’s single season record holder for most rushing yards. In 2019, Dickerson was named to the National Football League’s 100th Anniversary All-Time Team. With an elegant upright running style that produced some of football’s most-watched highlights, it was said he was so smooth you couldn’t hear his pads clack as he glided past you. But during his Hall of Fame career, his greatness was often overshadowed by his contentious disputes with Rams management about his contract. In the pre-free agency era, tensions over his exploitative contract often overshadowed his accomplishments. What’s his problem? went the familiar refrain from the media. Can’t he just shut up and run? It’s time to reexamine how Eric Dickerson was portrayed. For the first time, he’s telling his story. And he’s not holding anything back.

Spirit and Soul: Odyssey of a Black Man in America, Volume One, an engaging, edifying autobiography by Theodore Kirkland, offers critical insight and politically cognizant commentary on the past, future and real-time reality of race relations in America. His long career in law enforcement some 39 years total as a military police officer, Buffalo police officer, New York State parole board commissioner and adjunct professor begins by happenstance in the Air Force. Instead of being sent to gunnery school as he requested, he is ordered to report to the Army Military Police Academy in Camp Gordon, Georgia. Kirkland's narrative voice in this page turner is clear, self-effacing and relentlessly candid unapologetic for the black and white of his experience, and cautionary in his instruction for navigation through the gray. Yet in every syllable, there is a remarkable, palpable love for his family, friends and community and unyielding commitment to upholding the Constitutional promise that "all men are created equal." Spirit and Soul: Odyssey of a Black Man in America, Volume One is at once witty and wise; poignant, wistful and meticulously illustrative of an American perspective too often shadowed by stereotypes that contend that Black men contribute primarily to the prison population. It also is an important chronology of the evolution of African American life and experience from Jim Crow to contemporary "Post-racial America."

Most students lack any form of discipline or restraint in the classroom. Parents condone their childrens behavior. School administrators exhibit a god complex, and school police officers are caught in between the web of school politics that often interferes in enforcing the law equally to all. Today, students adverse behavior in the classroom no longer constitutes a delinquent conduct as per classroom discipline management rules, but rather, an act that has manifests itself into a criminal offense. Students are empowered to act bad when their own parents themselves refuse to correct their childrens maladaptive behavior by blaming others for their short comings. And this problem is further exasperated by school administrators who either use a strong arm tactic to curtail the problem or a too soft a hand to make an impression to get a child to exhibit positive behavior in the classroom. School administrators have a God complex where they walk around their campus expecting everyone, including school police officers, to do their biting. School administrators try to instill their own brand of justice by picking and choosing which students are to be charged with a criminal offense while others are allowed to continue their maladaptive behaviors. School police officers find themselves in a very precarious situation where they must wear different hats to address different issues that arise in the classroom. School police officers are like band-aides that are place on a wound, it is a cure all fix all approach to making problems go away, unfortunately, when dealing with the school community school police officers, and law enforcement in general, cannot use a band-aide to make things better as police work in a school setting is a web of complex issues that fosters misunderstanding among members of the school and law enforcement communities.
