A gripping, eerie, and hilarious novel-in-verse from poet Matthew Rohrer. In a Russian-doll of fictional episodes, we follow a midlevel publishing assistant over the course of a day as he encounters ghost stories, science fiction adventures, Victorian hashish eating, and robot bigfoots. Rohrer mesmerizes with wildly imaginative tales and resonant verse in this compelling love letter to storytelling. this night they all seemed asleep for a while the stark shadows held me only my mind moved wildly behind my eyes until I heard a tiny song coming from the driver song of a bandit’s broken heart, song of his betrayal I slept and dreamed I was awake Matthew Rohrer is the author of Surrounded by Friends (Wave Books, 2015), Destroyer and Preserver (Wave Books, 2011), A Plate of Chicken (Ugly Duckling Presse, 2009), Rise Up (Wave Books, 2007) and A Green Light (Verse Press, 2004), which was shortlisted for the 2005 Griffin Poetry Prize. Ged has written rhyme, rants and reflections on life for many years under the 'pen' name of 'Daniel Dwyran'. This collection of some of his unpublished performance poetry, short stories and songs will melt your heart and form a personal insight into his unique and inimitable style. Having been recently diagnosed with 'Young Onset' Alzheimer's and whilst his capabilities allow him to do so, this book will not only inspire, but convey to you a sense of the personal drive that he does possess. Tears of joy and sadness will flow with this upbeat, acute and detailed observation of life.

Aussie Yarns: some serious, some funny, and some philosophical. Most are about down-to-earth country folk. Some, like ‘Rusty’ and ‘A Farmer’s Wife’ have a lesson in them. Others are even a bit romantic, for example, ‘Blind Love’ and ‘Best Friends’. In a number of cases, the story is inspired by a poem already written, and in other cases, one is written specially, but in any case, all are accompanied by a poem or two and an explanation as to how it all came about. Primarily these yarns were written with an Australian readership in mind, most of whom would understand and appreciate the slang words and phrases used, particularly by unsophisticated bushies. However, I imagine some of the terms may leave non-Australians a bit perplexed. Stick with it, and by the time you’ve read Witness for the Defence you will have probably worked out what a “sheila’ is, along with all the other words and expressions that are uniquely Australian country in origin. Enjoy the adventures of the 110 characters who play some role in these yarns.

A memoir of crossing cultures, losing love and finding home by a New York Times Notable author in her prime. As steadily and quietly as her marriage falls apart, so Kyoko Mori's understanding of knitting deepens. From the flawed school mittens made in her native Japan, where needlework is used as a way to prepare women for marriage and silence, to the beautiful unmatched patterns of cardigans, hats and shawls made in the American Midwest, Kyoko draws the connection between knitting and the new life she tried to establish in the U.S. From the suicide of her mother to the last empty days of her marriage, Kyoko finds a way to begin again on her own terms. Interspersed with fact and history about knitting throughout, the narrative touchingly contemplates the nature of love, loss and what holds a marriage together. In the tradition of M F K Fisher's The Gastronomical Me, Joan Didion's Where I Was From and Michael Pollan's The Botany of Desire, Mori examines a specific subject to understand human nature - when to unravel, when to begin again, when to drop the stitch, and when to declare?it?s finished.

In grey, 1930s England, Bea has grown up kicking against the conventions of the time, all the while knowing that she will one day have to marry someone her parents choose - someone rich enough to keep the family estate alive. But she longs for so much more - for adventure, excitement, travel, and maybe even romance. When she gets the chance to spend the summer in Italy with her bohemian uncle and his fianc_e, a whole world is opened up to Bea - a world that includes Ben, a cocky young artist who just happens to be infuriatingly handsome too. Sparks fly between the quick-witted pair until one night, under the stars, a challenge is set: can Bea and Ben put aside their teasing and have the perfect summer romance? With their new friends gleefully setting the rules for their fling, Bea and Ben can agree on one thing at least: they absolutely, positively will not, cannot fall in love... A long, hot summer of kisses and mischief unfolds - but storm clouds are gathering across Europe, and home is calling. Every summer has to end - but for Bea, this might be just the beginning.
