Steve Addison gleans the characteristics of the dynamic missionary movement from biblical, historical and contemporary case studies. Addison shows how these factors recur in every period of Christian expansion, and suggests that Christianity's distinction as a historical movement lies in its power to outlast the centuries.

This biography of Pauli Murray is a groundbreaking new nonfiction book intended for the middle grade audience written in verse. Pauli Murray was a thorn in the side of white America demanding justice and equal treatment for all. She was a queer civil rights and women's rights activist before any movement advocated for either--the brilliant mind that, in 1944, conceptualized the arguments that would win Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka; and in 1964, the arguments that won women equality in the workplace. Throughout her life, she fought for the oppressed, not only through changing laws, but by using her powerful prose to influence those who could affect change. She lived by her convictions and challenged authority to demand fairness and justice regardless of the personal consequences. Without seeking acknowledgment, glory, or financial gain for what she did, Pauli Murray fought in the trenches for many of the rights we take for granted. Her goal was human rights and the dignity of life for all.

Sometimes we get so caught up in the power of Jesus shouting from the cross, "It is finished!" that we forget that Jesus started something too. Uncovering the inner dynamics of Jesus's work with the disciples, veteran church planter Steve Addison reminds us that Christianity is a movement with a unique design for expansion.

Few topics have produced more heroines than the struggle of women for their right to education. Amongst the pioneers of third-level education for women in the north of Ireland were Eliza and Isabella Riddel. Never themselves having had the opportunity of university education, in 1913 they founded Riddel Hall for women students.

Pioneering ministry sounds like something you do, something active, even something driven. However, prayer and contemplation are at its heart, paying attention to God, to the world and to oneself - a kind of being that goes hand in hand with doing. Pioneering requires a spirituality that will fuel a life lived beyond the borders of the church. In this collection, a range of practitioners explore the inner and outer dimensions of pioneering spirituality. Offering many proven and innovative ideas, they explore what resources, fuels and sustains a life of pioneering mission. What is the spirituality in the UK's wider culture and how do we connect with it appropriately? How might spiritual treasures such as the Eucharist, prayer, pilgrimage, spiritual direction and community rhythms of life be expressed to those with whom pioneers share life? And how might communities of disciples grow and be formed in this pioneering spirituality?

This work on the pioneering history of the Boers in the Cape Colony (South Africa) before the Great Trek (1835-1846) is primarily based on research in various archives and libraries. However, the author PJ van der Merwe (1912-1979) found it desirable to personally visit different areas mentioned in the book to get to know the country and the people better and to gather oral tradition and personal information. In carrying out this fieldwork during 1938 and 1939, the author covered 15,000 miles by car and questioned hundreds of people (old pioneers, farmers, teachers, magistrates, school inspectors, livestock inspectors, surveyors and police agents). This investigation not only enabled him to better interpret the sometimes fragmentary data found in the archives and old travel descriptions, but also served to supplement it.
