Development and current status of lecithin as a product are very closely linked to the continuously increasing variety of applications; these issues are addressed at the beginning of the volume. Subsequent descriptions of the numerous applications of lecithin make up the core of the work.

The bile acids as principal end products of cholesterol metabolism occupy a focal position in our understanding of the role of steroids in bio logical systems. The biogenesis of bile acids from cholesterol in higher ani mals, and their functions in regulating sterol metabolism and in gastrointestinal physiology have been elucidated by the development of elegant methodo logical approaches during the last two decades. The molecular pleomorphism exhibited by the bile acids and bile alcohols in the animal kingdom is a classic example of their role in biochemical evolution. The total story of the bile acids, their chemistry, their role in normal and abnormal physiological processes, and their significance in biochemical evolution has never been available in the form of a comprehensive treatise written in the words of those who have contributed to the development of our knowledge in this area. The Bile Acids, in two volumes, will serve to fill this void, and will also bring together information which will prove in valuable to both the biochemist and the medical scientist. We wish to thank Mrs. Sally Wiseman and Mrs. Lillian Haas for their invaluable assistance with the editing of the manuscripts. Rheology: Concepts, Methods, and Applications, Fourth Edition provides a thorough historical and theoretical grounding in the field and introduces rheology as the method for solving many practical problems in materials science and engineering. This new edition has been updated to include new evidence-based methods and applications, coverage of non-Newtonian properties and their effect on material processing, heterogeneity in flow, rheology of highly concentrated emulsions and suspensions, viscosity and viscoelastic behavior of nanocomposites, the behavior of supramolecular solutions, rheology of gels, deformation-induced anisotropy, conformation changes during flow and molecular orientation. The book is practical and relevant for industry, but also consistent with rheology courses in academia, making it relevant to both academics and accomplished rheologists in industry. - Includes updates on non-Newtonian properties and their effect on material processing, heterogeneity in flow, rheology of concentrated emulsions, suspensions, and more - Discusses viscosity and viscoelastic behavior of nanocomposites, the behavior of supramolecular solutions, rheology of gels, deformation-induced anisotropy, conformation changes during flow, and molecular orientation - Covers theory backed by practical examples, methods of measurement and raw data treatment, and various applications

First published in 1991. Historically, phospholipid binding antibodies were important in the study of syphilis. During the 1980s there was a resurgence of new interest in these antibodies due to reported associations with recurrent thrombosis, fetal loss, and other clinical disorders. Because of the variety of reported clinical associations and their occurrence in systemic autoimmune disorders, these antibodies have become important in many medical fields, such as clinical immunology, rheumatology, hematology, and obstetrics and gynecology. Phospholipid-Binding Antibodies provides in-depth reviews by specialists in these clinical areas and covers topics including the biochemistry of phospholipids, their role in coagulation, phospholipid immunology, and lupus anticoagulant and antiphospholipid antibodies by solid phase immunoassays. Other topics include thrombosis and fetal loss, as well as the role of phospholipid binding antibodies in these disorders. Antiphospholipid Syndrome and its reported clinical associations is also discussed.
