This volume describes the latest advances and perspectives in hydrosilylation, with a focus on new organometallic catalysts and their mechanistic aspects. Hydrosilylation is the reaction of ≡SiH with carbon-carbon, carbon-heteroatom or heteroatom-heteroatom bonds and is the most fundamental and elegant method for laboratory and industrial synthesis of organosilicon molecular and macromolecular compounds. Yet these reactions do require a catalyst, for which initially homogeneous noble metal catalyst, mainly platinum, rhodium, iridium or ruthenium were used. However the high prices, metallic residues of these valuable catalysts as well as issues with product purification, did increase the interest in developing new catalysts. Noteworthy in this regard are the recently developed hydrosilylation reactions using catalysts based on earth-abundant transition metals (for example Mn, Fe, Co, Ni) and heterogeneous catalysts presented here. This volume of Topics in Organometallic Chemistry is written for scientists interested in silicon chemistry and its catalytic aspects, but can also be used as valuable handbook for postgraduate and advanced undergraduate students working with organometallic chemistry, catalysis as well as synthesis of fine chemicals.

Organometallic chemistry is based on the reactions and use of a class of compounds (R-M) that contain a covalent bond between carbon and metal. They are prepared either by direct reaction of the metal with an organic compound or by replacement of a metal from another organometallic substance. This book presents research in this field.

The Handbook is part of the Handbook of Reagents for Organic Chemistry series, aiming at collecting articles on a particular theme that individual researchers in academia or industry can use on a daily basis. The Handbook starts with a section discussing the most important aspects of heteroarene functionalization. The introduction is followed by the alphabetical listing of the most relevant reagents drawn from the EROS database. The Editor, André Charette from the University of Montreal, has selected 120 reagent descriptions, many of them updated with heteroarene-specific reactions for this Handbook. Following the standard format for EROS, each article contains an overview of the synthesis and physical properties of the reagents or catalyst, conditions for its storage, and purification methods. Given the importance of heteroarenes in biology and especially in medicinal chemistry, a Handbook that focuses exclusively on heteroarene functionalization has been long overdue. This Handbook will have a broad appeal to many individuals engaged in the area of medicinal chemistry, fine chemical synthesis and industrial-scale chemistry. Key features: Builds on the success of the previously published Handbooks of Reagents for Organic Synthesis Compares the numerous new C-H functionalization reactions that have been developed in the past decade Heteroarene functionalization is widely used in the development of pharmaceuticals and other bioactive compounds Contains listings of secondary reagents for which more information is available in the online edition

Over the last decade, the area of homogeneous catalysis with transition metal has grown in great scientific interest and technological promise, with research in this area earning three Nobel Prizes and filing thousands of patents relating to metallocene and non-metallocene single site catalysts, asymmetric catalysis, carbon-carbon bond forming metathesis and cross coupling reactions. This text explains these new developments in a unified, cogent, and comprehensible manner while also detailing earlier discoveries and the fundamentals of homogeneous catalysis. Serving as a self-study guide for students and all chemists seeking to gain entry into this field, it can also be used by experienced researchers from both academia and industry for referring to leading state of the art review articles and patents, and also as a quick self-study manual in an area that is outside their immediate expertise. The book features: • Topics including renewable feed stocks (biofuel, glycerol), carbon dioxide based processes (polycarbonates), fluorous solvents, ionic liquid, hydroformylation, polymerization, oxidation, asymmetric catalysis, and more • Basic principles of organometallic chemistry, homogeneous catalysis, and relevant technological issues • Problems and answers, industrial applications (case studies), and examples from proven industrial processes with clear discussions on environmental and techno-commercial issues • Extensive references to cutting edge research with application potential and leading patents • Tables and illustrations to help explain difficult concepts

Organosilicon Compounds: Experiment (Physico-Chemical Studies) and Applications, volume 2, also contains two parts. In its first part, Experiment (Physico-Chemical Studies), the application of modern instrumental tools (such as X-ray crystallography, 29Si NMR spectroscopy, UV-Photoelectron Spectroscopy, and other methods) for assessing the structures of organosilicon compounds is described. The second part, Applications, reviews the current research in the field of material science, specifically the use of organosilicon compounds in synthetic chemistry directed towards the creation of new materials. Organosilicon Compounds: From Theory to Synthesis to Applications provides a comprehensive overview of this important area of organic and organometallic chemistry, dealing with compounds containing carbon–silicon bonds. This field, which includes compounds that are widely encountered in commercial products such as in the fabrication of sealants, adhesives, and coatings, has seen many milestone discoveries reported during the last two decades. Beginning with the theoretical aspects of organosilicon compounds' structure and bonding, the book then explores their synthetic aspects, including main group element organosilicon compounds, transition metal complexes, silicon cages and clusters, low-coordinate organosilicon derivatives (cations, radicals, anions, multiple bonds to silicon, silaaromatics), and more. Next, readers will find valuable sections that explore physical and chemical properties of organosilicon compounds by means of X-ray crystallography, 29Si NMR spectroscopy, photoelectron spectroscopy, and other methods. Finally, the work delves into applications for industrial uses and in many related fields, such as polymers, material science, nanotechnology, bioorganics, and medicinal silicon chemistry. - Features valuable contributions from prominent experts cover both fundamental (theoretical, synthetic, physico-chemical) and applied (material science, applications) aspects of modern organosilicon chemistry - Covers important breakthroughs in the field as well as with the historically significant achievements of the past - Includes applied information for a wide range of specialists from junior and senior researchers (from both academia and industry), working in organometallic, organosilicon, main group element, transition metal, and industrial silicon chemistry, as well as those from interdisciplinary fields such as polymer, material science, nanotechnology

Due to their distinctive properties, ionic liquids have attracted the great and unflagging interest of researchers for over 30 years. This interest has been focused mainly on their use as a green alternative to volatile organic solvents. However, they often act not only as solvents but also as catalysts, catalyst immobilizers and initiators. Over 100 types of chemical reactions are known in which ionic liquids (ILs) were applied successfully. This Special Issue is aimed at showing the most recent advances and trends in the design, synthesis and characterization of catalysts based on ILs, as well as presenting their activity and application potential.
