Let's tell it like it was: By the late 1970s, the Peavey Electronics Corporation was already respected among working musicians for its well-made, reasonably-priced amplifiers and P.A. systems. Then Peavey proceeded to turn the electric guitar-manufacturing business upside down when the company introduced its T-60 guitar and matching T-40 bass. High-quality instruments with innovative circuitry that evoked unique sounds, the T-60 and T-40 quickly carved out an impressive share of the guitar market. Moreover, the T-60 had a suggested list price that was less than half of the price of the models with which Peavey intended to compete... and Peavey's list price included a case, while the list price of the competing models didn't. This is the story of a group of Mississippi mavericks, led by Hartley Peavey and Chip Todd, and their quest to develop stringed instruments that were as durable, functional and popular as Peavey amplifiers. It's a definitive American success story, and it's only one part of the Peavey legend.

(Book). Known for his plain-speaking style and hard-driving business ways, Mississippi native Hartley Peavey pursued a dream that started in his teen years and developed into a musical instrument dynasty. Peavey's vision was to build top-quality instruments that plain folk like him could afford, and through his ambition, creativity, and hard work he created one of the leading companies in the music and sound industries. The Peavey Revolution tells the story of 40 years of persistence, passion, and personal travail, often in Hartley's own colorful words.

Don’t fret! The music historian and guitar sleuth brings you more astounding stories of rare guitar finds and the legends who owned them. Do you dream of finding a 1954 Stratocaster or 1952 Gibson Les Paul online, at a garage sale, or in the local penny saver? How about virtually rubbing elbows with one of your favorite rock legends? Following up his first-of-its-kind The Strat in the Attic, musician, journalist, and “guitarchaeologist” Deke Dickerson shares the stories behind dozens of more astounding finds including: A rarer-than-hens-teeth 1966 Hallmark Swept-Wing that originally belonged to Robbie Krieger of the Doors, stashed away in an attic in Alaska for forty years! A crazy-valuable 1958 Gibson Flying V belonging to a Chicago bluesman—who, it turns out, also happens to have an equally rare 1958 Gibson Explorer! An out-of-the-blue, a “to whom it may concern” email leads the author to a trailer park in Salem, Oregon, where one of Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys’ original 1940s Epiphone Emperor archtops is waiting to be purchased for a song! Luthier R.C. Allen relates the tales of buying Nat “King” Cole Trio guitarist Oscar Moore’s Stromberg Master 400 archtop and of being gifted a 1953 Standel amp from Merle Travis! Buddy Merrill, the amazingly talented guitarist from the Lawrence Welk show, gives his 1970 Micro-Frets Huntington to the author, but only if he “promises to PRACTICE.” Photos of the guitars and other exciting memorabilia round out a package that no vintage-guitar aficionado will want to be without! “The man knows how to tell a great story.” —Jonathan Kellerman, #1 New York Times–bestselling author

A must-have for any guitar lover! This book introduces the reader to 250 guitars of all types from the early acoustic archtop designs of the Gibson L-5 in the last 1920s, through the National resonators of the 1930s, the hollow body electric Gibsons of the 1950s, the solid body Fenders of the 1960s, to the exoskeletal carbon and glass fiber of the Parker Fly of the 1990s. Each entry has a clear color photograph of the guitar together with a detail shot featuring a point of particular interest of that instrument along with a description and a technical specification. This book has been a dream of mine for many years. I've finally been able to take the time to gather all of the pictures of the guitars and put them in one place. On these pages you will see a collection of guitars that I have been collecting for nearly 42 years. Everything from my first Silvertone acoustic guitar that I started playing when I was 3 or 4 years old, to a guitar that I bought just a few months before finishing this book is in here. I've even included some never seen before pictures of my younger years playing music. Some of them are a little embarrassing, but hey, I was an 80's teen. Every guitar in this world has a story behind it. Many of the guitars that I have collected over the years can't be traced back to the day they were purchased, but some of them can, and some of them have amazing stories to tell. I've tried to include as many of those stories as I could in this book. Guitar collecting has always been a passion of mine, and I would like to share it with you.
