The Parable of the Pearl (also called the Pearl of Great Price) is one of the parables of Jesus. It appears in Matthew 13:45-46 and illustrates the great value of the Kingdom of Heaven. It immediately follows the Parable of the Hidden Treasure, which has a similar theme. "Again the Kingdom of Heaven is like a pearl merchant on the lookout for choice pearls. When he discovered a pearl of great price, he sold everything he owned and bought it," Matthew 13:45-46. And thus begins the Pearl of Great Price. Jesus spoke tenderly of a priceless pearl in His sermon about the Kingdom of Heaven. Jesus said that He spoke in parables to hide the secrets of the kingdom from some and reveal them to others. This does not mean His parables are full of esoteric information that only a select few can grasp. Indeed, Christ's enemies often understand exactly what His parables mean; the problem is their refusal to trust His teaching about Himself and God's kingdom. Join me for a deeper look at our Lord's most inspiring parables...
