Infiltrate a heavily-guarded naval base. Sneak onto a submarine full of hostile crew members. Sabotage a top-secret weapon. What could go wrong? When a top-secret military program in Pakistan is discovered, the Indian Prime Minister launches a covert operation to neutralize it. The plan is simple. Infiltrate Pakistan, penetrate the heavily-guarded secret facility and sabotage the weapons. Veteran operative Armaan and his Covert Ops team are called into action. But such a daring mission was never going to be easy and as the Ops team find themselves outnumbered, outgunned and surrounded in hostile territory, will all be lost? Or will they be able to pull off the objective despite insurmountable odds, and the risk of discovery and execution? Armaan and his team are experienced field agents, but as their plan threatens to spiral out of control, they realize that they may not make it out of this one alive. Meanwhile in Afghanistan, the disbanded Al-Qaeda has regrouped and is more powerful than ever. They have conceived a blood-chilling attack that will make 9/11 pale in comparison. From the dense jungles of Bangladesh to Afghanistan's Desert of Death to the snowy peaks of Pakistan, Operation Deep Strike is a pulse-pounding adrenaline rush that will leave action thriller fans white-knuckled. Volume 5, Deep Maneuver: Historical Case Studies of Maneuver in Large-Scale Combat Operations, presents eleven case studies from World War II through Operation Iraqi Freedom focusing on deep maneuver in terms of time, space and purpose. Deep operations require boldness and audacity, and yet carry an element of risk of overextension - especially in light of the independent factors of geography and weather that are ever-present. As a result, the case studies address not only successes, but also failure and shortfalls that result when conducting deep operations. The final two chapters address these considerations for future Deep Maneuver.

When American defense officials meet informally with their allies and friends from other North Atlantic Treaty Organization countries, the conversation often turns to the growing disparity in combat capability between European and U.S. forces. The problem is bemoaned, but the participants are not stirred to action. This is unfortunate. We need a cross-Atlantic debate that seeks feasible solutions to this problem. Mind the Gap responds directly to that need. It not only dissects the problem of a growing disparity but also rejects its inevitability. Instead, it lays out a multitiered strategy for its solution which is specific and practical, including processes and procedures for implementation. The proposed strategy is complicated and would be difficult to execute; it would raise questions and even objections. That is as it should be. The alliance, nevertheless, has solved larger, more complex problems. We urgently need to find a way to close the gap because the problem is getting worse. The United States continues to implement its vision of a globally mobile military force equipped with the latest technology. The European members of NATO are not investing in similar capabilities. As a result, the gap will widen and be increasingly difficult to close.
