Prince Edward County, Virginia closed its public school system in 1959 in "massive resistance" to the U.S. Supreme Court's historic Brown v. Board decision of 1954. The editorial pages of the local family-owned newspaper, The Farmville Herald, led the fight to lock classrooms rather than integrate them. The school system remained closed until the fall of 1964, when the County was forced by federal courts to comply with the school integration ordered by Brown. The vast majority of white children had continued their education in a private, whites-only academy. But more than 2,000 black students were left without a formal education by the five-year closure. Their lives were forever changed. A Civil Rights Reparations Story: The Road to Healing in Prince Edward County, Virginia, by Ken Woodley, is his first-person account of the steps taken in recent years to redress the wound. The book's centerpiece is the 18-month fight to create what legendary civil rights activist Julian Bond told the author would become the first Civil Rights-era reparation in United States history; it was led by Woodley, then editor of The Farmville Herald, still owned by the original family. If the 2003-04 struggle to win passage of a state-funded scholarship program for the casualties of massive resistance had been a roller coaster, it wouldn't have passed the safety inspection for reasons of too many unsafe political twists and turns. But it did. The narrative unfolds in Virginia, but it is a deeply American story. Prince Edward County's ongoing journey of racial reconciliation blazes a hopeful and redemptive trail through difficult human terrain, but the signs are clear enough for a divided nation to follow. The history is as important for its insights about the past as it it about what it has to share about a way into our future.

If God is so powerful and loving, why are so many people sick and dying? This question invariably exists in the backdrop of the heart-felt prayers of every hurting child of God. For the sick and suffering, the question is paramount--how does God decide who lives and who dies? Who is healed and who is not? The author, Linda Clark, relates the circumstances surrounding her own serious illness as she discovered answers to these difficult questions. Linda expounds on the recommendation of the Apostle Paul to find answers by exploring the story of the ancient Israelites: “Now these things happen to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.” In The Exodus Road to Health and Healing, Linda makes a comparison between the promised blessing of Jesus for those who followed after Him when He said, “…He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.” But this promise against the results of degeneration and pain mankind is experiencing today leaves many disillusioned with a God who seemingly does not hear or appears to heal arbitrarily without rhyme or reason. Conversely, the author reveals how we may turn this seeming curse around, removing the barriers between man and God's healing mercy. What stands between mankind and holding the keys of heaven? The author reveals the simple barriers of tradition that God is calling His people to come out of. She champions the will of a God who wants us to be healthy, happy, and whole, and who has entrusted us with a natural world as His abundant provision for healing. As the final days approach, it is the author's desire that God's people will be fit to come boldly before the throne of grace, claiming the promised blessings and training necessary to withstand the coming storms.

The intensive study of Jungian psychology was amplified by another subject, taught continuously while I was a student at the Jung Institute in Zurich, Switzerland: the psychology of fairy tales. The study of fairy tales was the specialty of a fairly young, single woman, Dr. Marie-Louise von Franz. She lectured to us English-speaking students in well-spoken English, and the conviction and power of her voice made me feel how deep and meaningful these stories were to her. Not only that, I, myself, was immediately, deeply affected by the convincing, spiritual reality that was being presented to me in the stories themselves. It was as if the reality of life came out here in a wholly new form, untouched by the standard accepted form of common life. What most struck me, I think now, was the following realization: here, in this story, is a completely insoluble problem. I want to follow it all the way through and, to my surprise, finally feel that this problem has been solved. This outcome has been both essential and unbelievable to me. As one who felt that life posed just such an insoluble problem, I found the typical fairy tale both impossible and incredible. I found in fairy tales a healing presence and possibility for the terror of my own early life. This is the unexpressed feeling that kept me fastened on the totally unexpected subject of fairy tales.

Your entire life revolves around four types of relationships: yourself, others, the planet, and God. You experience pain and suffering as well as joy and delight with all relationships. All relationships are a journey of discovering you are love, others are love, you live upon love, and the One who is nontangible is the Source of all love. While you are in discovery, you are also in doubt about all I just told you. Your journey in this incarnation is, in a way, your journey to removing all doubts about the manifestation of love through yourself, others, and the planet. That manifestation comes from the Source of all, All That Is, Love Itself. The closer you come to recognizing that all is love, including that which you in your humanity don’t like, the closer you will return to Oneness, the closer you will come to ascension. Heal your relationships with yourself, others, the planet, and the one you call God. As you do so, the truth of who you are will unfold from the tight bud of a flower into a glorious full bloom. You have more spiritual support than you can imagine. Open your heart and mind to that support. Learn to listen fully and gently to the whisper of your guides, who are your support team.
