Historical-critical scholars have often thought that writing a coherent theology of Isaiah 56-66 is impossible because it contains such historically and ideologically diverse materials. A canonical approach to the chapters is, however, open to considering Third Isaiah as a complex but coherent theological unity. Leaning on this approach, Abraham Oh constructs a theology of Isaiah 56-66. Arguing that the theology of Third Isaiah has eschatology (both prophetic and apocalyptic) at its core, he identifies four major themes and explores their significance through four key texts (56:1-8; 59:15b-21; 60:1-22; 65:13-25). The covenant concept (56:1-8) forms a framework for the eschatology in these chapters. People are invited to walk in the covenant, which is worked out as eschatological salvation. The coming of YHWH as the Divine Warrior initiates the eschatological era (59:15b-21) and, bringing judgment, restores the covenant. As the Temple-city-paradise (60:1-22) into which the nations flow, the glorified Zion is the eschatological fulfilment of the covenant, Zion, and Servant traditions. The New Heavens and Earth (65:13-25) is a return to the primordial paradise, where the natural world is restored, as the problem of sin is resolved.

“Oh, that You would rend the heavens! That You would come down!” Millions have prayed that, and pray it now. In the Day of Thy Power is filled with plentiful quotations from eyewitnesses of revival and with inescapable biblical authority for such “times of refreshing . . . from the presence of the Lord.” It unfolds the conditions by which God still comes, as in apostolic days, with “mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God.” This first book of Arthur Wallis, written in 1956, was an immediate success when first published and has become a classic on the subject of revival.

Students of Scripture love to compare how translators have understood the ancient Hebrew and Greek texts to see if they can discover deeper meanings, or simply ask more pertinent questions. Four of the most popular versions have been placed in parallel columns--KJV, NKJV, NIV, and NLT--so all can take copious notes. Preachers, Bible study leaders and participants, students of the Scriptures, and general readers who are curious about how different translations render their favorite verses will delight in this volume. The same set of verses for all four translations is located on facing pages two translations to a page making text comparison a snap. King James Version The dignified, poetic language of this word-for-word translation has made it the favorite of countless readers for over four centuries. New King James Version A completely updated translation that's faithful to the accuracy and beauty of the KJV, while using contemporary and readable language. New International Version (2011 Update Text) Scholarly accuracy and easy readability combine to help readers understand and apply the intended meaning of the biblical text. New Living Translation (Second Edition) Includes marginal notes that explain word choices, plus a more consistent rendition of ancient terms into their modern English equivalents.
