Ramsey presents a new analysis and interpretation of the religious views of the nineteenth-century American philosopher William James. He argues that James was primarily motivated by religious concerns in his writings and that this fact has been obscured by the artificial scholarly division of his "philosophy," "psychology," and "religion"--a symptom of the professionalization which James himself strenuously resisted in his own time. Ramsey believes that James is best understood in his historical context, as a representative of a society and culture struggling to come to terms with modernity. Much of James's religious work is a direct reflection of what has been called "the spiritual crisis of the Gilded Age," a crisis which Ramsey examines in illuminating detail. James's religious vision, in Ramsey's view, hinges on the recognition and acceptance of "contingency"--the knowledge that we are at the mercy of change and chance. With so little else to rely on, James believed, people must learn to submit freely and responsibly into one another's care. Ramsey reintroduces James's thought into the contemporary discussion, and puts forward the kind of religious alternative that James was pointing to in his work: not worship, but acquiescence in a world of mutual relations; not obedience to authority, but conversion to the freedom of responsibility.

Lambda Award 2015 for Best Gay Mystery! Josie O'Conner travels to San Francisco in 1951 to locate her gay brother, a private eye investigating a blackmail ring targeting lesbians and gay men. Jimmy's friends claim that just before he disappeared he became a rat, informing the cops on the bar community. Josie adopts Jimmy's trousers and wingtips, to clear his name, halt the blackmailers, and exact justice for too many queer corpses. Along the way she rubs shoulders with a sultry chanteuse running a dyke tavern called Pandora's Box, gets intimate with a red-headed madam operating a brothel from the Police Personnel Department, and conspires with the star of Finocchio's, a dive so disreputable it's off limits to servicemen — so every man in uniform pays a visit. Blackmail, My Love is an illustrated murder mystery deeply steeped in San Francisco's queer history, as established academic and first-time novelist Katie Gilmartin's diverse set of characters negotiate the risks of same-sex desire in a dangerous era. Set in such legendary locations as the Black Cat Cafe, the Fillmore, the Beat movement's North Beach, and the Tenderloin, Blackmail, My Love is a singular, stunning introduction to a new author and to gay noir.

Amyta lives a seemingly simple life with her family on a farm near a small town. One day, a mysterious “visitor” arrives, prompting her parents to send her on the run. For a time, Amyta is trapped in a cave, protected by a mysterious spell. When she escapes after the danger has passed, she finds only ruins in place of her home. Then she meets Sly the Elf Warrior, who rescues her from being abducted by the mysterious and cruel Ravens and taken to the Black King. A series of endless adventures begin, during which she meets many wonderful creatures besides the elves, including Suomi the Little Light Eater, the Wonder Stag and magical helpers. At the end of their long journey, they arrive at the dreaded Thorn Hill, through which Amyta is the one who finds her way, and with her companions, finally reaches the realm of Starry-eyed. Susanna Park, born in Budapest in 1976, has been the single mother of a daughter. Deciding to follow the calling deep inside to write, the story of Amyta came to life. This is a huge step and change from transforming into a writer after being in the business of accounting for 25 years. In her works she wants to show the inner sightings of the Hungarian legends and myths to a larger audience. Thorn Hill is her first published book.

I grew large yet I shrunk small. I rose up yet I shrunk down low. I knew this feeling well, I was entering the dream world. I stood outside of the cave of a thousand eyes and I began to feel rain pouring down on me. I lifted my hand and looked at it and it was then that I realized I was not being covered with rain drops, I was being covered with blood and this blood was that of my people that was shed during the battle to keep our homeland. The legendary battle of the removal of the Cherokee known as the Trail of Tears. Although I stand as one spirit I have lived many lifetimes. Past meets present and present meets the past. I entered the dream world hoping to find the answer and knowing I had fought many battles with the evil one and it always begins the same way, by entering the dream world where my spirit guide Nonauma awaits for the past and the present to merge and become stronger, stronger for the battle between good and evil. The dream world is universal, all beings go there but there are those few who stay longer sometimes hours, sometimes days yet have only closed their eyes for a moment. Morning Star and Olivia posses this gift and although they are two separate people they have one thing in common, they share the same spirit. Morning Star is Olivia’s past life and Olivia is Morning Stars’ future life. Together they must battle an angry entity simply called the evil one. The evil one will do anything to capture and keep the girls gift of sight. With this power he can rule many people, therefore making it easier to cause chaos and disaster. The evil one controls the bees and snakes and he uses them all to try and get an upper hand on the girls. He is much like the coyote, full of trickery. But there is one rule that even he must follow and that is he can not take this gift away from either girl they must give it to him out of their own free will. Both girls are born with a marking upon their palm, a perfect medicine wheel and this mark holds the key that can destroy the evil one. Who is the dream and who is the dreamer? Well, that is for you, the reader to decide. Although the girls are from different eras, their battle has not changed. The dream world is mystical and magical and it is a place with no boundaries. At times it is hard for both girls to know whether they are in the good dream world or the world of bad dreams where the evil one lurks, waiting for the right time to deceive the girls. Their battles are legendary amongst Morning Stars’ people but in Olivia’s world, she stands alone, isolated within the truth and it is only in the dream world that she finds freedom to use her gift without any worries of being different.

A WALL STREET JOURNAL BESTSELLER Unlock your originality and unleash your unique talents with this simple guide from the acclaimed author of Think Like a Rocket Scientist. We say some people march to the beat of a different drummer. But implicit in this cliché is that the rest of us march to the same beat. We sleepwalk through life, find ourselves on well-worn paths that were never ours to walk, and become a silent extra in someone else’s story. Extraordinary people carve their own paths as leaders and creators. They think and act with genuine independence. They stand out from the crowd because they embody their own shape and color. We call these people geniuses—as if they’re another breed. But genius isn’t for a special few. It can be cultivated. This book will show you how. You’ll learn how to discard what no longer serves you and discover your first principles—the qualities that make up your genius. You’ll be equipped to escape your intellectual prisons and generate original insights from your own depths. You’ll discover how to look where others don’t look and see what others don’t see. You’ll give birth to your genius, the universe-denter you were meant to be.
